So what’s next then? We’ve spent another week on this for nothing, so who’s next in line? And how quickly can that happen?

This is a position we’ve need filling for not days, not weeks, not months, but years. We got run around in circles for two summers chasing Gnonto and the same thing is in prospect here.

At some point the club will either need to a) accept a horrific deal (which those Southampton terms would be) just to get the body in and back their scouting of the player or b) change tact and target a riskier option from abroad that is less proven, isn’t beholden to CL dreams and is cheaper.

The thought of not having this position sorted by the Leeds game is infuriating. And you can’t even just assume that it would be a few games written off before the end of the window, because the club has form in failing to address issues like this entirely. Hard to escape the feeling they’ve stuffed this window already.
