Top Four Possibility

Lol. Your mind is so linear to think my post referred to a change in set up.

He set up, as per, with three CBs to match up Peter Crouch as a loan striker. Arnautovic took Holgate apart arriving late and at speed...which is what he does. The genius didn't anticipate it.

*sigh*

So he should have changed the set up of the side to take account of a player with 3 goals and 3 assists all season?

hahaha, whatever you say Dave x

This ^

Stoke got at our back 3 and Holgate had a poor game, so he changed it, and we looked far more secure second half. It was good game management and something that he's not been afraid to do all season. Refreshing to see some actual game management.
Agree. Making changes when they are needed is the sign of a strong manager.
I don't mind admitting that when he was here I was a big Moyes fan, but the greatest frustration was his refusing to substitute players until about 10 minutes to go. Sometimes it's so obvious when a plan is failing you wonder what goes through a manager's mind when he does nothing

Cant understand why Koeman is a premier league manager and you're sat at home on GOT with tactical awareness like this

Exactly which is why a point at a very hard to go to ground like stoke isn't something that should dent the confidence, and why the games at home coming up will see if we are playing to hold off teams below or have a chance to get above those above us. We drop points in those home games coming up then yeah any slim chance of top 4 likely diasapears and then would require we would need to turn over a spurs away to make up that ground etc.

Its all about momentum though, right now we have it, win against Bournemouth and it builds
A point away to Stoke was decent. My point is that it's not the sort of result you need when you have pretensions of muscling into the group of teams above us.

I think he can expedite it by buying some creativity immediately. That's why my wish this past transfer window was to use the cash we paid out on another CM we dont really crucially require to bring in Sigurdsson.

More fool him that he didn't.
Swansea turned down a 30 mil bid from a Chinese club, how much did you want Everton to pay 40-50?

It was though Dave, was losing his man, stepping up at the wrong times allowing massive space behind for a decent times run, dropping off to keep people onside at other times. Stoke had obviously worked in training on specifically targetting the lad and it worked, was a good decision at half time to change it around, after which they created absolutely nothing of note really.

Stuff happens, and will be a lesson for the lad which will ultimately improve him as a player.
I'm not denying any of that. I just dont think Holgate was the problem. The decision to play the way we did was the problem - he set him up on a collision course with a very canny and athletic player like Arnautovic which he was unlikely to win.

He can only buy what is available, and if the players he wants (and we dont know who they are) arent available, you would hope that he doesnt just buy fillers. Hes just spent 6 months ridding the club of those kind of players. He has bought players in this window that were available and improve us in a number of areas.
Throw the cash paid for Schneiderlin at Swansea for Sigurdsson and the latter's availability would have been immediate.

Was offside for their goal, tough one for the Linesman to call because of the distance it travelled, but he was defiantly offside

I cant understand why HE didn't see how Stoke set up when using Crouch as a starter. £6M per season for making those howlers. He must be pissing himself.

I just think that the squad is a little thin, I think we should have taken the gamble on buying some good quality 1st team players even if it meant paying over the odds. It would have been a gamble but the prize will have been EL or CL football and increased revenue again.

I think we can get close but ultimately I don't think we will have the quality to beat the top 6 teams and we are 2 or 3 injuries or suspensions away from a crisis.

Ha ha ha.

YES, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE DONE. Lol. Do you think it's right to ignore how the opposition attack is set up?

FFS, that's brilliant.
