Because we are talking about expenditure taking place two years down the line, with money sourced from future revenues due to a new TV deal.

There was a new TV deal around time, and I'm ****ed if you're all going to maintain that it all went on other operating costs, and none of it went on strengthening the squad.

Rooney was sold at the end of the Window.

Moyes stated he didnt want to make signings in the January.

The following window, the Rooney money was spent.

The new TV deals are ALWAYS much better mate....

Just follow that we make money from player sales or we're screwed. You wont go far wrong then unless we get investment/new owner etc.

We make far more money from TV revenue.

When the new TV deal comes in our revenue will far exceed our income, and nobody will give a rats arse about a 5million pound investment which has allowed us to have a top quality player like Donovan for 3 or 4 years.

Whether you sign a player for a million, 10 million, whether they are 21 or 31, there's always a risk. We have made losses on plenty of young signings, Scott Spencer, Luke Jutkawiec (you expect me to spell it right? really?), Iain Turner. You need a mix. We could sign a promising 24 year old for £6m but he might fail. Look at Bily. Look at what profit or not we made on Yakubu. Not every player you sign must have resale value. Without signing players like Dempsey we may lose 5m in league placings. We have a small squad as it is and there must be an emphasis on quality as well as resale value. It's not a given we will definitely finish top 6 or 7 next year. We've lost Cahill and Rodwell ffs.

Look at Giggs playing superbly in his 38th year! DONOVAN IN DEMPSEY TOO IN FACT I ONLY WANT AMERICANS FROM NOW ON.

Yeah, I agree with you.

I think there are other\younger options out there that would be more suitable for our club.

Ignoring our financial situation I'd love to see us sign Donovan + Dempsey. They're great players and they would improve our team significantly but as you've pointed out already we've got an older squad.

What worries me is that we're going to have to replace them all at the same time if we don't start planning for it ahead of time. My heart says buy Donovan and Dempsey and make a push for the Champs League but my head says we should be investing in younger talent so we can generate the money to replace our older players in the future.

We either need to buy some younger talent now, get lucky and produce it from our youth team over the next couple of seasons or we may end up in serious trouble with our first team as I think we'll have to replace too many experiences players around the same time.

Thats exactly what I've been trying to put in writing...its a nice dream but if we live the dream we're not looking healthy

Off to sleep now, what an entertaining thread !

He bought Beattie in the January.

And you are totally discounting that any money went to the bank, when I think this is very much the case.

If we ever in the ****, it was just before Rooney was sold.

Keeping the club running at a guess, We run at a loss every season

Rooney money on tranfers, Everything else on debts and running the club,Would you agree??

As for "This is besides the point", No it isent, you are saying Everton will start spending money on players when that is something we have never done

We sell then we buy, Now a days we sell then we buy cheaper

FACT

Were there no losses being made prior to Rooney's departure? There will have been, and I've heard more than one person say Rooney saved Everton, and it wasn't because we went and spunked a load of money on Beattie, Kroldrup and Davies.

Its because a healthy chunk of that money went to the bank!

You

You

So we gave half of the 28m to banks to bring the debt down, Then we went out and spent the exact same amount on players to bring the debt back to the same figure

Would love to see Dempsey and Donovan brought in. I was made up after selling Rodwell at the mere thought it became a possibility.

I dont care how old Donovan is- he knows the club, he loves the club, when hes played for us hes been awesome, he is the US pin up boy and would no doubt raise our profile. He would without a doubt get us into more US markets just by playing for us permanently.

Sell on fee?! What about the money he could/would earn us. No brainer but obviously at the right price. £9m for Dempsey at 29 or £9m for Donovan at 30. I know where I would spend my money.

The TV money is nice.

Show me where the banks took the Rooney money, Del has just shown that ALL of the money from the sale of Rooney, Graveson + others was ALL spent.

Show me the banks chunk, PLEASE.

His player sales column all relate to players sold in 2004. 15 million of the players mentioned in the players bought column were bought in 2006.

Are you really telling me that we took two years to spend 15million, and that no money went to the bank, because we were clearly in such a healthy position back then?

I find it weird that people are suggesting that none of the MASSIVE new TV deal will be spent on strengthening the squad, it's almost like you want it to be true just so you can have a go at the board.

you keep bringing up the new tv deal, as if its our saviour.

What about the previous record tv deals, how come they were not our saviour.

Their is a common denominator, to say that this new tv deal will go the same way as previous ones.

As i have stated earlier, organically we need to increase our turnover. The current regime have failed, and are not willing to invite investment through a share rights issue, as it would devalue the massive payout they want, once they eventually find a buyer to pay over the odds for the club.

No, we paid the bank money when Rooney left, that's why people say he saved Everton, not because we went out and bought Simon Davies.

It took us two years to spend the exact same amount of cash then did it?

Our 15million pound expenditure in 2006 couldn't have had anything to do with a forthcoming TV deal, could it?

And none of the new TV money will be spent on new players, it will all go on other operating costs.

Again, we compete in a league with 19 other squads that will be receiving this TV money as well. There will not be this dramatic windfall that you describe. The money will be eaten up trying to contend with the other clubs.

As Moomin states (can't believe I just typed that), revenues need to grow from sources that are not shared with the rest of the league in order for Everton to grow.
