Zatara is moaning about us potentially having to sell Fellaini in a few years time, yet he is advocating a policy of buying young players and then selling them at a profit as soon as they reach their peak, just so we can then buy another young player and start the process all over again, a process which will get us absolutely nowhere.

We have already invested enough in young players to sell them later on and then re-invest the cash, the sale of Fellaini once he reaches his peak is what Zatara's transfer policy is based on.

As we have more than enough players who could be sold for big money, and given the massive new increase in revenue that is on its way, we need to add some quality senior players which will make a difference right now, rather than solely focusing on this treading water policy, which ultimately results in us selling our players as soon as they reach their peak.

I don't care if they're American, Brazilian or Martian, I can't advocate spending millions on players with 0 resale value, unless they can single handedly turn us into a top 4 team. Which Donovan and Dempsey can't do, in my opinion. I'm not even sure if Messi could like so that's no slight on them.

We very rarely have money so when we do we have to spend it wisely. We don't have an endless supply of Jack Rodwells to flog.

Donavan is proven class, something we need, we could buy a young player who offers nothing, where you need experience in the team and Donavan is suited to us and he will play for another 4 years, get of your high horse.

I don't see how I'm on a high horse mate, I'm offering my opinion. As much as I want us to do well, have you seen how Pompey are doing? It seems we're in the sh*t financially when we spend sensibly, so I'd worry if we start splurging millions on players who'll retire blues.

And I know how good Donovan is. I heart Landon, and he makes us play better and yes he'd probably go on for another 4 years. But nothing in those 4 years would pay back the millions we'd surely have to spend, and the same goes for Dempsey.

Well the extra prize money would, and the money for the new TV deal. Plus we have numerous players who are capable of being sold at a profit, which is clearly something you approve of.

This!

If we spent whatever money on players like this (both good players dont get me wrong) then we deserve to be skint forever.

Also neither of them would turn us into a top 4 team.....in my opinion.

I don't like it, but what Zat is saying, is what we need to do unfortunately.

If we were financially ok, and spunked what little money we had on Dempsey and Donavon I would be delighted. But, were a mess. We have to buy potential, take a gamble.

As for the new tv deal, it will bring an increase in revenues. But, look back at the previous deals, they were all a massive increase as well and we still managed to go further in debt.

Unfortunately, we have failures at the helm. We can't rely on tv deals, organically we need to grow. But, that's restricted because we outsource everything on long term deals.

Extra prize money means higher league finishes. I don't think we can do better than 7th, or if so 6th at best. Dempsey's been touted at £9 million.

The new TV money wasn't just discovered by the club. We haven't just won the lottery and you can't assume that we have that money to spend on players.

And no I don't think we should just flog all our players, but we need a safety net. If we spend big on a player we need to know that we can get something back. Bilyaletdinov for example. It was a poor transfer but we got some money back because he was 24 when we bought him, not 29. This applies more to Dempsey than Donovan, to be fair. If we could get Landon for £3m ish I'd be all for it.

Nobody is advocating solely buying players over 30. But there is no way on planet earth that investing in a top quality player like Donovan would see us go over the edge. This is especially the case given how many players we already have who can be sold at a large profit, and the massive increase in revenue we will be receiving in the not too distant future.

Bill Kenwright has done a really good job on people. He made a 5million pound loss for 4 or 5 years knowing full well that he would be able to pay it back with the sale of a few assets, the bank new this as well, otherwise they wouldn't have authorised the overdraft.

The banks must love us, they know we are good for making a few quid. And with the extra new revenue on its way, and with numerous playing assets that could be sold at a huge profit, I wouldn't even be surprised if we got our hands on yet another overdraft.

We really aren't in half as bad a situation as people make out, but we would have been had we not been able to pay the bank back their cash, but everyone knew that we were in a position to pay them back, we are still in a position to pay them back another 20million pound right now if we were forced to.

The level of increased revenue from the new TV deal will quadruple any outlay or 'loss' made on Donovan. I'm not saying all the new TV money will be spent on players, but I am saying that it will stop us from making a loss, and therefore I would EXPECT it to be spent on players or stadium improvements.

I think you've just shed light on the root of the problem there, mate.

We'll never agree because I could not disagree more with that bolded statement.

across the park its not the manager who is trying to sign dempsey its the owners , cause of the knock on affect it will have in the states for the red shi..e,

OK then, what makes you think we are in such a bad situation?

Our debt is small compared to premier league standards. Over the past 5 years we have been able to make losses of 5 million pound a year and then easily rectify such losses by the selling of a few assets, and the effect on the team has been negligible, although it certainly has stalled progress which is what we all want.

We could do it all over again and the banks would still get their money, but we wont have to, because our revenue will far exceed our expenditure in just two years time.
