2025/26 Thierno Barry

Said this after the Villa goal, and the same is true today.

Think the most pleasing thing for me about the goal yesterday was how he was on his toes to follow in the rebound.

We hear a lot how our forwards are “starved of service”, but a lot of it comes down to them not being alert, or not making the correct run. But he got it spot on yesterday, so fair play to him.

Finish was exemplary too, mind.

Honestly, we’ve been starved of basic striker stuff like getting infront of your defender, or making a near post run.

….as an aside, I used to play for a team managed by Dave Hickson and I’ve never seen a footballer with bigger ankles than him, they were extraordinary. Presume something to do with the era he played in, when you got the ball out in training he was fearless bordering on being a nutcase, even on a concrete surface 😖

Never saw Hickson play but remember my Dad telling me about this game.
In front of a capacity crowd at Goodison Park, Hickson launched himself headlong in amongst flying boots and emerged with a huge gash above one eyebrow. Hickson was led off down the tunnel, with the crowd fully expecting Everton to play the remainder with 10 men, as substitutes were not yet permitted. He emerged from the tunnel in the second half, greeted by a huge ovation from the crowd, with a row of freshly applied stitches holding the wound together. Minutes later Hickson scored what would end up as the winning goal, then headed against the post and opened the wound again. Despite pleas from both the referee and his captain to leave the field Hickson remained to the end of the game, his blond hair now red, and his shirt the same colour as the United ones.

My biggest gripe with him really is how he will freeze up with the ball and get caught in 5 minds. He has massive brainfarts at times when he could be either creating his own chances or a chance for someone else. He is actually decent on the ball for his size and his position. His decision making is clearly not there yet. Hopefully that will come. I have no doubt that the service needs to improve though. That is not on him.

Said after his first couple of games watching - Brains not quick enough for the Prem Lge. Can't instill a quick brain, your born with it!

He’s quick when he gets going as well. Seen a few times now where he’s knocked the ball around the defender and burnt them for pace.

Think he’s one of those players who looks awkward because of his stature, but the lad can play.
Really think so many people are getting caught out on aesthetics with Barry. He just has an incredibly gangly and awkward looking frame and it really skews how people rate him.

Wonder if that'll change if he packs on some more muscle and fills out a bit.

That worked well for Lukaku. Lack of muscle and bulk aren't his problems...sorting his feet out and not falling over them needs work first.
His last 2 goals were masterpieces of finese and timing, muscle and bulk nowhere in the picture
