The position of Bilyaletdinov

One gear player, could have knocked four in today. Expect him to hit the target at least once.
Starting to doubt him, and I am a champion of Osman (not good today) and Hibbert (Very good first half today!!!).

Billy, Billy Billy..where do we begin? We've had all the expect opinions and excuses ; He was tired from coming off the back of a full Russian season into ours, He can't adapt to the speed and physicality of our Premier League,He can only be played on the wide left and thus causing the team to be unbalanced etc..

I think the simple answer is, he is just not good enough for top flight Premier League, not to the standard that is expected at an ambitious and gilded club as Everton - Maybe Fulham or Sunderland, just not here.

On his début during a Europe league game, he shone like no other. Pin point crosses and corners and a sweet left foot that we had no seen the likes of for decades here. He was a diamond in the rough - Moyes had worked his magic again. But as the Premier games came fast and furious, Billy went the opposite way. His confidence waned then his touch quickly followed by his football aptitude. Watch any game involving Billy and his movement is stunted - He'll pass then stop and some times even get in the way of advancing midfield team mates.

On the right he looks lost and to a point - a Billy No Mates. No cohesion or bond with whoever plays right back and no scope for those marauding over lapping attacks from the likes of Peanuts and Baines. Sadly he is adding to an already weakened and lack lustre right wing.

His first time touch can be infuriating yet his goals can be orgasmic. But we demand Nothing but the Best at Everton and sadly for the outlay made on Billy, we ain't getting value for money and I don't think we ever will. I honestly think Billy's best option is a loan deal to hone his skills and let him adapt in a less demanding team. If we are to rally forward towards a European place, accommodating Billy is only going to hinder us and weaken our resolve.

We need a finished article on the right hand side and that man is the boy from California..the Anti-Billy ..Landon Donovan!

Amen Brother.

Maybe the problem is that his preferred position is that taken by Cahill. Perhaps the scouting reports didn't make it clear that he couldn't cope with two or three other positions.

Few things. . .

He's never really played back to back games in the prem to create a partnership with anyone. He's not quick. He's not a grafter. He's not a winger in the prem.

Missed some sitters today, which is fogiveable IMO as there are times he's changed a game and there are 10 other players on the field to make a difference.

So what can he do? He's got a cracking left peg, can pick out a pass and has good vision, good attacking ability in and around the box.

So where would suit him? My guess in the middle of the park with arteta or in cahills position. He certainly one of the most creative in the side and can pull some magic out of nothing.

A case a fitting him into a position that he doesn't suit in the prem? Or would never get a chance to show what he can do in other positions?

He certainly improves our football and IMO would add that cutting edge and creativity that cahill doesn't have.

Landon would surely be perfect...

...but in general, Bily just seems like a great guy to bring in off the bench when we aren't generating any offense. I would think, with the other team a bit tired, Bily might have a bit more space and opportunity to let a few shots fly. But more importantly, like it's been said, when he's on, he's a difference maker. If we aren't looking good and have nothing to lose, he's our man.

He's also a nice player to put on in a cup match or something of lesser importance because he does have some flexibility in terms of where he can play. But he's damn expensive for that role.

If he wants to fit into this line-up he needs to play on the right (Pienaar was lost on the right today). But he lacks the pace to penetrate defenses. His best bet is to perfect the predictable cut into the top of the box and hope to net 5-6 thunderbolts a season with that cannon of a left foot.

I say cannon, and not howitzer, because he's just as likely to give a little girl in the stands a concussion as he is to make any keeper shift his weight.

These threads are reassuringly similar to the threads that were popping up about Fellaini this time last year. Still hoping Bily comes good. Him and Arteta next to eachother with Fellaini sat behind them could be a winner.

For the sake of the balance of the side could Arteta back on the RW be a viable option now? I wanted him moved into the center as much as anyone and love watching him there on form, but if he was back on the right wing with Bily or Rodwell taking his place in midfield we'd suddenly look a lot more balanced I think.

while I agree that an out and out winger would be great, bily, vic and guaye can do a job on the right.

Problem is still the middle/front. Cahill is a passenger IMO at the moment playing along side strikers who need their link up player to be creative rather that a grafter.

Nothing to add here. Just wanted to say that there have been a lot of intelligent points made in this thread. I hope he comes good for us.

On the pine for mine. Has shown nothing but the odd goal. Seems to lack confidence and needs to earn his spot.

He's a more talented version of Cahill in my opinion

waits for abuse hurled in my direction*

Cahill is fantastic, has been for years for us, but he aint gonna hit 25 yard screamers, he hits bullet headers, and if we are developing into a pass on the deck outfit it's gotta suit Bily more than Cahill in the long run. It's nice to have the two of them to have options, but unfortunately Moyes either A) doesn't see Bily how a lot of us seem to see him or B) doesn't have the balls to sit Cahill on bench for a bit and give Bily a go

I'm starting to doubt him.

So now he'll obviously become ace. I stuck by Fellaini for most of the time, and as soon as I started to doubt him, BAM, best player in the world.

Am very curious as to what a Billy Elliott/Coleman partnership would offer on the right. Coleman's enthusiasm & superb work-rate to compensate for Billy's static movement, enabling Billy to concentrate on drifting infield to either supply Coleman with quality ball to the byline on the overlap or take a pop at goal on his left peg.

Exciting to comprehend, but sadly will probably never be tested, judging by Moyes' tried & tested, safety first policy.
