A question on the tactics for those who claim it is all about the tactics...

If they are that bad , a) how were they so successful last year and b) how did the same group of players be so successful at carrying them out?

The tactics suddenly havent changed; they are the same as last year.

The tactics are different from last season that's what people are trying to say. Tactics don't start and end with either long ball or passing game. How many times did barkley play on the left last season? Baines in cm? Not to mention we'v almost given up going down the wings!

Spot on that.

"Some very experienced players need to take charge and make themselves heard, while young so-called superstars need to realise that football for them is a job, not a hobby. Being a professional is about doing some things you don’t like, and doing them for 90 minutes, not just when the mood and the circumstances suit them.

How has it come to this so quickly though? The whole thing seems to have unravelled quicker than a busty strumpet’s jumper caught on a nail in a Benny Hill sketch. It can’t all be down to McCarthy’s injuries, can it? It’s so bad now though that Bill Kenwright must already be assessing doomsday options. He trusted David Moyes implicitly and so found it easy to keep faith with him through the toughest of times – does he have that same belief in Martinez after only 18 months? What does he do if we go out the FA Cup and then get smashed out of sight by City? Does he back him regardless, and trust him to make big decisions over the futures of players like Seamus Coleman who are reportedly interesting other clubs at the moment?

At times like these what’s required is strength of character and proper leadership. From the chairman through to the managers and the players on the pitch there needs to be a clear and unequivocal vision: this is what we are doing, these are your responsibilities, and if you don’t like it then get the [Poor language removed] out of Dodge. Indecision and mixed messages create grey areas, and that’s where the cowards and the shirkers hide."

I really do think that their is a serious divide in the squad. Eto'o may be instrumental on one side with the likes of Distin, Lukaku judging by the close up whilst they were all sat on the bench yesterday. Jags as club captain will always take the club line, hence yesterday's "we're all behind Roberto's philosophy" bo11ocks.

Whatever, the situation, its us fans who suffer. Watching it has become bloody painful. The silence coming out of the club today is deafening. This is as serious as its got since 1994 and 1998 and I doubt their is another Hans Segers around to save us as players these days already earn enough.

I think this is pretty much the nail on the head. I suspect that they way we seem to have broken our wage structure to accomodate Barry and Eto'o (as well as the influence they seem to have in the dressing room) may well have upset a lot of the senior players. I think this was first hinted at when Barry has become third/fourth choice captain in front of Baines , Martinez definitely has some players on his side (Barry, Eto'o, Stones etc) but I think there is another faction that is maybe none to happy with the direction he is trying to take the squad....

None of us know whats really going on but someone at the club needs to be strong and fix it.

I dont know, there's always been a gradation of wages. High earners have always existed side by side with those "less well paid".

I seriously doubt this is down to finances.

Something has changed in between this season and last and it isn't tactical (the fact it is being played slowed is because the players have stopped taking risks) and whilst I don't think it is entirely financial, some of the more established players who are used to getting one year extensions may look and Eto'o and Barry coming in on cushy long term deals and start to feel a bit irked

The are the same as last year, but now the likes of neil warrnock and Steve Bruce the tactical genius have cottoned on to a plan of nullifying our static players

Maybe so and if thats the case martinez needs to sort it.
Well, agreed obviously, the question is can he? I really do have a massive hunch that Everton is broken where it matters most and us fans (the ones who really care) are totally helpless. Fuck1n sort it out someone FFS.

No, I do recollect him nearly getting us relegated.

Moyes will NEVER win a trophy. You have to be bold as a manager and Moyes cant handle a big occasion. He'll retire without any major trophy. Amazing really for one of the highest paid managers in world football for the past 10 years.
Nearly is a world away from actually though Dave. But to seriously talk of sacking Martinez at this stage is ridiculous.

Think that's nonsense, to be honest.

If i was Osman i wouldn't look at a player who used to be one of the world's best coming in on a two year deal and be annoyed at him getting a good deal. Same with Barry, multiple title winning player. As Davek says it has always been the case that certain players get better deals and contracts, part and parcel of football and being a football player.
