I think there is certainly something to that but then the Cubans have always targeted boxing whilst the yanks dominate swimming, to me recognising a sport you are strong in and ensuring you try to get stronger just seems like a 'no-brainer' but also as we all know success breeds success . I'm not from the kind of household that has a history in rowing but if i was much much younger id have fancied a go after the enjoyment its given me but rather than a aging halfwit like me we'll hopefully attract real young talent. If you look at the fact there are working class lads winning medals in the olympic regatta the redgrave effect is still in full swing as is the initiatives hes introduced (sporting giants etc..) .

I think the performance in athletics yesterday was certainly up on the usual and I believe the boxing end result will (hopefully ) mark our greatest ever olympics performance in the ring.

what are you thinking for the end result for the boxing mate, coming into the games I'd of said at least 4 medals for the men, with at least one being gold, havent got a jar about the womens to be honest, six in the quarters now, all one win from a medal.

andy murray is playing some unbelievable tennis in this comp. tremendous comeback from the wimbledon disapointment, he'll be winning a grand slam in the next year if he keeps this up

FFS We(GB) are boss at this Olympic lark aren't we? Proud weekend to be British, although as usual football tries to ruin it in the best possible way.

It wont last mate. You have to be a sporting and economic powerhouse like the US/Russia/China/Germany to sustain great sporting efforts over time. Spain had a great games in Barcelona and the Aussies in Sydney. Britain is a middle ranking country and wont ever reach anywhere near these highs again.

You cant knock it though: they've peaked bang on time and are reaping the benefits. I just wish all the jingoistic tits would wind their necks in, because all this 'I'm proud to be British' bull**** is spoiling a global sporting occasion. I'm going to have to switch to Eurosport for the track and field. I feel nauseous when I hear the BBC divvies chatting their shite. Proper ruining the Games.

This current Olympics has not exceeded the Beijing medal haul yet, too many certainties have been found wanting, heartbreak only seconds away.
I'd like to think the explosion in cycling will perpetuate itself, and that the facilities in place to bring generation after generation in the boxing will continue to reap dividends. The improvements in the gymnastics has been a bit special at this current Olympics, Daley will get a new partner in the diving, and although no medals the team GB football success might mean a push to take teams to Rio as well.
Commonwealth games in Glasgow 2014. Did wonders for Manchester and for all the athletes in 2000.

I agree with this, some right weapons coming out the woodwork with this proud to be British garbage, people love a bandwagon 2 jump on.

I think in both men's and women's I'm hoping for a gold in each and I think another medal in the women's with unfortunately Natasha missing out but if she wins her next fight (which will probably be too tough for her) it'd open right up for her. I think we can get maybe even get another 3 in the men's which would give us 6 which would beat 1956 by one . (I'm not including 1908 when we entered 32 boxers though obviously).

Obviously it could all go wrong but disregarding colours I think I can't see us getting less than four across the board which is immense and I really feel (as we've discussed earlier) that the atmosphere and crowd has massively worked in our favour and could turn QF's into bronzes and silvers to golds. Look at ogogo that was an incredible result and frankly he was an outsider and he's beaten one of the favourites meaning he's surely got a medal chance now. It's unpredictable but I'm thinking and hoping we can do well

Is it really worth getting agitated by though? It's a historic event in British history. The participants are performing with aplomb. There is an enormous amount of national interest because of British success. It's been nigh on perfect really. What's not to be proud of?

Nothing mate, but watch it change is 6 months time and you go in to pubs and people say stuff like "this country is goin to the dogs" where will the pride be then?

sounds promising for the women then, yeah with Ogogo, I never would have had him down for a medal, he really has suprised me, Taylor however was always gonna be in a dividion too tough for him, I didnt think he'd beat the Brazilian even. Like you say about home advantage, the close calls have gone our way, Joshua and Ogogo benefitting, not robberies like, but close calls. I also think that Campbell, Joshua, Stalker and Selby will fight better in the quarters than they did in their opening bouts, as you very rightly predicted, all the lads who had byes were a little but out with either sharpness or timing.
