Just being realistic. I dont care if they are cheating, tbh. I love cycling and I fully expect it. It's pretty naive to think this is all being done on Broccoli and hard training.

If they're all on f*cking druhs then it'sa level playing field...

Proletarian GB 4 golds.

Middle Class GB 4 golds.

Yawn...

Biggest medal count so far. 3 golds and 1 bronze for her.

She's 17. Too young to be a porn star!

Do you not watch porn??! :o

They're lucky that there are so many medals in it, and the chance for athletes to compete for 3, 4, 5 medals each.

In fact of the state's 21 golds, 14 are from swimming events and of their 41 medals, 27 are from swimming events. That's just silly.

Read an article on ESPN the other day, debating whether Phelps was the greatest ever olympian, due to the fact that there are so many opportunities in swimming. Tbf, if you can beat that many people in that many races...

I'm sure it was free swimming for all wasn't it? Either way, is terrible it got cut. I used to swim a bit when I was younger, and I remember it costing 50p to swim for however long you wanted.

I went swimming again a year or 2 ago and it was £6 odd for a swim for 2 hours, absolute joke

That's hardly a bad price compared to what it costs to play other sports for that amount of time. And tbf, if swimming was free near me I wouldn;t be any more inclined to go...

Maybe best of three sets is the way to go for men's tennis?

Well I bet Murray would have won a Grand Slam by now if that were the case...

More than that mate. Plymouth just got a new one, somewhere near me has got one of the training pools when the olympics are done. It's an expensive sport though. My younger sister swims quite a lot, and I know it costs my parents a fair bit to just let her train, never mind competition costs on top of that. Make it cheaper, make it more accessible, and more will swim. And above all, make it easy to be able to progress beyond the age of 10 or 11. Lots of younger swimmers are only good because, as RFUS says, they're so tall and big. Lot's peak older, and unless they can fund themselves through, it's very difficult. My mate I mentioned, is a fantastic swimmer, but is a total waster. He lives at home with his parents, with no job, so focuses on his swimming. He's amazing, but ultimately he wont make it, then what then for him? Let people like him get the intensity of training they need, then watch the GB swimming improve.

That's got nothing to do with funding, or backing, or anything like that. If your mate hasn't got the desire to succeed, then he never will, no matter the talent...

Jo Pavey now... Dibaba is **** hot though.

Gotta love Pavey's trademark socks too.

She lives/runs near my parents house. Her, that ginger lass who used to run for us, and all the Kenyans too....

unlucky for the GB ladies in the basketball, france hit a 3 pointer with 2 secs left in OT. GB girl actually scored a 3 pointer in those 2 secs but the buzzer went just as she threw it so didnt count

Because it wasn't in those 2 secs??? :p

Australian media, from what I've read, seem to be applauding the British effort and pointing figures at the Australian camp. It's gone beyond jealousy.

We can jump up and down all we like, but funding for these elite sports is drying up. This will be a sad Olympics for us Paupers.

Oscar Pistorius just ran, historic that, 1st amputee to compete in Olympics.

Boss

Did you see the program about him on C4?

It was about the battle he has had to get to run with the able bodied

Hes boss and I am made up hes just qualified

After the Lord Mayors show mate, you can enter an untold amount of competitors in a home games, any that win/pick up a medal/ just miss out but look like 'next time' will get the sponsorship/funding. When it comes to sending folk across the world though then budgets are seriously looked at as passengers are expensive when it's from the public purse, as you move on from a home games then the team gets smaller and smaller as the pot dries up, unfortunately these sports aren't self funding.

Really made me chuckle this last night......

[h=1]Pete the Dernyman almost steals the show in the cycling[/h][h=2]The faintly comical sight of Pete the Dernyman riding a white battery-powered bicycle in front of the keirin cyclists has provided much mirth.[/h]
The faintly comical sight of a man on what appears to be a white battery-powered bicycle should not distract from the high stakes and high drama of track cycling’s keirin race.

The rider of the Olympic derny is Peter Deary, 65, a cycling coach at the Manchester Velodrome.

He has been a derny rider for 15 years, and carried out the same role at the world championships earlier this year.

In an interview earlier this year, Mr Deary admitted that people find his role and outfit slightly comical, revealing that friends "take the mickey out of me."

The derny rider, typically an experienced track cyclist-turned-official, usually wears a plain, aerodynamic cycling suit and helmet.

For London 2012, the riders are in black, with a distinctive pot-shaped helmet that contrasts starkly with the streamlined headgear of the competitors.
The word keirin is derived from the Japanese for “cycle raceâ€￾ and the sport is thought to have originated in post-war Japan.
However, the discipline has only been an Olympic sport for men since 2000, and London 2012 is the first Games where women have competed in the discipline.
The eight-lap race begins with a pace rider, typically on a motorbike, leading out the field of six riders.
In Olympic competition, the pace rider is mounted on an electric motor-assisted pedal bike, known as a derny.
The pace bike crosses the starting line at 30 kph for men and 25 kph for women. It gradually accelerates to a maximum of 50kph or 45kph.
The order of the riders behind the derny is chosen by lot; the slot in first place behind the pace bike is regarded as the least favourable, because it allows rivals to attack from the lead rider’s slipstream.
After five and a half laps, the pace bike pulls off the track, leaving the riders to sprint for the finish line; crashes are not unknown as riders fight for position at high speed.
Thanks party to the effect of the pace bike, racers can reach extremely high speeds in their final sprint: male racers including Sir Chris Hoy have exceeded 48mph in the keirin.

I think they could've exploited the rules a little here to get a faster time

When's the event where they have to Tuck in behind the 585 Double-Decker ?
