Britains are just useless at swimming. System doesn't help, seems very difficult to progress beyond amateur level unless you're fantastic at a young age and get the opportunity to get sponsored to do it through school. Having said that, mate of mine almost made it to the olympics. He's just a freak though

In the States mate, it's all free, the kids learn at an early age to swim. Granted they have more outdoor pools and have in the most part a better climate for that, but honestly, if they kept up with that commitment to allow us to have free swimming in this country, I know I would swim all the time, I imagine every one would, and how much fitter and stronger would we all be?

The policy Labour brought in was for u16's I think, got reversed straight away by them right wing blerts, the problem now is will the sport be cut even further funding wise by a poor performance.
