I’m not even that old.. so I tell myself. Had something like this my old man made me .. of course didn’t have breaks and we lived on a hill .. always needed to crash it into the bushes to stop the thing to avoid going into traffic

Oh, we had to brake a wedge of wood the rubbed on to just one back pram wheel - OK on the flat useless on hills lol

No fancy cordless drills in those days a red-hot poker from the coal fire to make the hole for the main bolt on the steering - then the bolt was hammered through with a nut on it that usually worked loose lol

We had a lad in our gang who went to College. He was good at making things and mending things, so we used to let him do the work. All we were interested in was the finished product. The only problem was that there were no hills in the area of Liverpool we lived in. The nearest hill was by Hartley's Jam factory, just a bit too far.

@Methuselah prompted me with his - how it used to be Re Walton and this popped in my mind
I didn't know it was that old tbh.
Ray Davies 1983 ode to the 50s of his childhood.

They put a parking lot on a piece of land
Where the supermarket used to stand
Before that, they put up a bowling alley
On the site that used to be the local palais

I don't have any jeans and never have had. However, I still weigh the same as I did when I played my last game of football in 1976.
Sorry for quoting you from a different thread @Methuselah
(didn't want to derail that thread and this seems more appropriate here)
Like you I am also the same weight now as I was 45 years ago, BUT I am definitely 3/4" shorter now than I was then.
Just wondered how common that is amongst the users of this fine thread?

Just to clarify - when I say shorter I mean height wise lol

Did people really die by falling in the red hot jam or was that just an urban myth?

I have numerous bits of documentation, including my Army National Service records, all of which give my height as 6ft 3 inches. About 10 years ago, I was in hospital and they wanted to measure my height and weight. They asked me what it was: I said 6ft 3inches. The Nurse said 6ft 2 inches. I think I have probably lost a bit more too. I was right about the weight though. lol
