The Oldies Thread

My back has been a bit stiff and sore recently, so as I was playing snooker today, I thought I would soak in a hot bath last night to ease it a bit. As I was getting up, I slipped and had a mega fall back into the bath. Fortunately, didn't break anything (my mate said I should have ensured I landed on my head!) but have several bruises and sore spots. I had filled the bath quite deep and it went over the edge of the bath like a tsunami and flooded the bathroom floor. Back to showers from now on.

….you take care.

1960's and all the houses in Abingdon Road, Walton were being painted.

Any colour you like, as long as it was corpy green
A lad I knew bought a cheap A40, as you say the Corpy were on the paint job and there were 3/4 empty tins of Corpy Green and brushes left everywhere...usually on Friday afternoon.
He decided to paint his car as it was tatty as 'k
It kept the 3 of us amused one Saturday afternoon until we remembered...
a) it would take ages to dry
and
b) we were supposed to be going off somewhere in it after tea

Top tip. From lying on your back, roll over onto your front, hands on side of bath, push and kneel, then stand up….

Thanks Pete, will try that, though being 6ft 3inches might create a problem? My knackered knees don't allow me to kneel on a hard surface so I would have to have some sort of kneeling pad too. Might try some of those knee pads that the builders wear.

The game against Huddersfield last week took me back to the early 1950s.
Brought up in Bradford, so the nearest 1st Division team was Huddersfield.
In those days Leeds were in the second division and the two Bradford clubs and Halifax were in the 3rd division (north).
My dad used to take me to the old Leeds Road ground and I was able to see teams like Wolves,Preston, Sunderland and such and their star players. Billy Wright, Tom Finney, Len Shackleton and the like.
Different world and to a great extent a different game to nowadays.

I have memories of Abingdon Road. Florence Melly school was half-way up and during the war there was a fire station next to the school. my Dad was a fireman and was based in this station. I remember him taking me and my brother there on several occasions. After the war, the fire station was knocked down when they built the pre-fabs.
