Anyway, now that we can see Boris leading the anti Putin response and showing clear leadership on the international stage, calling all the big shots correctly while the likes of Germany, Italy et al flounder, maybe he can be forgiven for having a glass of wine and a piece of cheese. A bit of perspective needs to be considered……
Great war boost.

A close friend who works in the Government circles believes heavily he will be gone within a week.

Same friend who told me Boris was in hospital 48hrs before it was confirmed to the media and also he was in ICU from a day or so in. I’d suggest he’s fairly reliable when he pipes up.

Wonder how far this is going to undermine the UK Gov & NATO’s stance on Ukraine. Although the consensus is Russia can walk into Ukraine and be welcomed, taking over without firing a bullet.

The Foreign office really want Boris out at the moment, irrelevant to what the head of the FO says, the people within the FO still are very bitter about the handling of Afghanistan.

My impression is they don’t want him there for the Ukraine talks. My friend still says gone by next week. Images have been handed over of the gatherings, the pressure mounts.

I posted these back in late January, some become true with Boris’ pictures of the DS events and Ukraine being invaded.

As you can see with the walking into Ukraine section that intelligence got it wrong. The FO thought it would be minimal resistance, not the full scale war and fight back by the Ukrainians. I don’t think anyone could have predicted the reality of what’s going on, and given the direction it’s taking I am pleased that the Tories stopped short of a no confidence vote as that would have really undermined the UK’s position in the fight back against Putins criminal invasion.

The reality is Johnson will be unelectable come the next election if he stands, the dirt will come out the closet regarding Russia, Covid and not to mention loosing the economy to some extent during 2021/22.

Get through the next 6 months/year with a solid stance and see where we end up.

Floor is yours Pete, keen to hear your views…

It’s quite simple, the U.K. has been reducing its overall Defence budget for decades. Meanwhile the cost of defence equipment has gone through the roof. The ‘bang per buck’ has decreased as a result. I’ve seen first hand how our MoD wasted hundreds of millions (MRA4) and allowed cost overruns on other capital projects to spiral out of control. Each time it happens the budget for the Army decreases and manpower disappears. So now we have some of the finest yet most expensive kit available at Sea and in the Air but are compromised for Land action.….

I see, sounds like something a competent government would want fix.

Conservatives have been in since what, 2010?, and Boris from 2019 - plenty of time for the issue to at least start to be addressed. Perhaps you need to vote in a party and PM capable of leadership on the issue…

Every government of whatever colour has contributed to this reduction, so if you can point me at any party that will address this I’d be grateful…..

Except during the last Labour government, when there was a 5% increase in defence spending. @peteblue - never knowingly getting in the way of the truth, or not.
