Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

Every government of whatever colour has contributed to this reduction, so if you can point me at any party that will address this I’d be grateful…..
Am sure many people contributed to issue but isn’t it the job of who are currently in power to fix it?

The Tories have been in power for over a decade and Boris himself for years. In that time they have also often had clear majorities which mean they could implement policies without constraint (unlike here in the US where often the President has to deal with a Congress of the different party or in the Dems case a Senate with a razor thin margin).

Sounds like a real lack of leadership to have not addressed the issue tbh…

I agree. Everyone was spending the ‘peace dividend’ and kidded themselves regarding future military requirements, and of course you were paying for it…..

From 1997 to 2010, and bearing in mind all of Tony Blair’s wars, the overall military headcount still dropped by 20,000…..
OK - Have we moved on the conversation then from your lie (or economical with the truth if you prefer) that all governments for decades have reduced spending on defence ? Ever thought of becoming a Tory MP ?

In terms of %GDP, since Harold Wilson, they have all reduced spending. I’ll grant you there have been the odd year where this has increased but the trend has always been down. It’s now a disgrace tbh…..

The security services withdrew an assessment that granting a peerage to a Russian businessman posed a national security risk after Boris Johnson intervened.

The prime minister pushed ahead with the nomination of his friend Evgeny Lebedev, the Moscow-born son of an ex-KGB agent and media mogul, even after intelligence officials raised concerns.

Johnson is said to have responded to advice to drop it by claiming: “This is anti-Russianism.” In March 2020, the House of Lords Appointments Commission (Holac), which vets peerages, wrote to the prime minister advising him against granting Lebedev, 41, a lifetime seat in the Lords.

May gave a speech when PM about the malign influence of Russian money on British politics around the same time Boris was Home Secretary. It’s entirely possible she was well aware Boris was in Russian pockets, but as we know wasn’t politically strong enough to get rid of him and/or the other Honourable Members for Moscow. And always wondered why when Boris was Home Secretary he was limited like no other, at best he has poor judgment, at worst which there is growing evidence and concern, the man is essentially corrupt.

Just for accuracy's sake - Johnson was Foreign Secretary, not Home Secretary.
