The muscles from Nigeria!!

All I'm saying is that people are going overboard about him. I still have the same doubts I had pre season and he'll need to show more than he has before I change my tune. He wasn't our best player on the pitch, he looked exhausted in the second half and offered us very little, and he didn't look too threatening in front of goal.

I'm not saying he won't start scoring goals again, I'm saying he hasn't done it yet and I'm not going to count my chickens until he does.

I still think a fit Saha is a better option.

Well I agree that he's not back to his best, and he did look knackered second half, but the improvements are there for all to see.

And simply put, Saha hasn't even looked like scoring in over 6 months. And to say he offers anything but goals is just plain wrong. He's your typical selfish striker, which is fine when he's banging them in, but he hasn't been doing that efficiently for a long time.

Don't be such a pedant.

What I'm saying is that he more than played his part in a team game, and a great team performance. Compared to say, Saha, who sits around doing feck all but might chip in with a wonder strike. I'd rather have someone who pulls his weight, and offers more than just goals.

And if you can't see how well the Yak played, you're so blinkered it's unreal. Every single news outlet was giving him loads of praise, and high ratings. Now that's not always a precise or completely accurate barometer, as we know, but it's indicative that he at least had a good game.

Of course he had a good game. So did Osman, doesn't mean he should still be first choice when Pienaar gets back.

It wasn't so good that I've changed my mind on him all together. I thought Cahill, Jags, Arteta, and Coleman all had better games and I have the same worries about his fitness and his ability to get into the box and finish moves that I've always had.

I object to the idea that some good runs and hold up play against a very poor defense is enough to magically prove he's going to be a twenty goal a season striker again. It has a good half's work, that's all it was. He keeps up this form and adds goals to his play? Then I'll start dishing out the praise but not before.

1.) Yes they did.

2.) I don't remember saying that. Basically, all I'm saying, is that the signs look promising again. He's got a bit of fight back and he looks a player for the first time in two years.

Lets not forget how he utilised beckford in the 2nd and fed him through the channels.

Just shows what beckford needs is a creative partner next to him, be in yak, bilya or pienaar.

Yak is the most creative forward player we have.

He gets scoring, hell be a big asset.

Needs sellin though.

No, you didn't, but the post I was originally responding to, way back when, was this:

I AM GOING TO BE BUMPING THIS THREAD THE NEXT TIME SOME DUMB DICK GETS ON HERE AND SAYS WE NEED TO SELL YAK OR HE'S PAST IT OR HE ISN'T OVER HIS INJURY.

I'VE SAID IT BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN. TOO MANY SHORT MEMORIES ON GOT WHICH NEED TO BE JOLTED BACK TO REALITY FROM TIME TO TIME.

(yeah, I know I was shouting but maybe it'll sink in this time with those who were on the "Yak Out" bandwagon.)

Which I thought was a little premature.

So what makes Saha any different? He's actually been fit, had the benefit of two pre-seasons, and has gone on a long goal drought.

Yakubu's played well in the last three games, it isn't just going on the latest game. The praise is hardly overboard either, he's come in for alot more criticism than he has praise during his time here.

It comes to a matter of opinion on that. I think Saha still looks dangerous around the box. Perhaps I'm still judging him by his great start to last season but to me Yak has more to prove.

The moment one starts scoring the problems solved and I'd be a happy man, but if neither are firing then my gut is to trust Saha with a start because I've seen him pull somethng out of nothing so many times.

That is true Reidy except not fit again and sticking to his leeches. Should go and to think we had a chance of selling him for a few mill. Never mind.

Yep.. Agree with all this. Yak deff looked boss y-day, and brining on Beckford late on in a game with pace against defenses should be done more often.

edit: agree except the last line

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen Yak on the ball and thought, "Play it then Yak, look up, what are you doing?". Then a second later he picks exactly the right pass but by delaying it has taken three more people out of position because of his superbly excellent football brain.

He may not be playing as well as he can, and he may not be doing this/that, but the point is similar to when Phil Neville plays. Phil is a limited player who on paper wouldn't make the team. But when he plays, we win more games than when he doesn't. The Yak is helping us play better, WINNING football. Its all about the result of the team, not individual performances. If you want that, watch Cricket. Or Golf.

I like you. The force is strong with this one.

My rs friend was claiming Yak should've been sent off. All I did was laugh at him and say "it was completely legal".
