Current Affairs The Labour Party

Starmer knows he's elected regardless of what happens.

COVID is a poisoned chalice and any party currently in power would have made a mess of it as the country simply wasn't prepared for a global pandemic of this magnitude.

Let the far left & momentum bugger off elswhere and lets get Labour back to what it should be after years of dooey eyed mismanagement and champagne socialists laughing in the faces of the working man.

I'm looking forward to what people like Paul Mason now say. People like him who got into the gutter with Starmer in order to argue that the LP would be a broad church and that unity was there if only the left of the party would grasp it.

Mr Mason, you have the floor....
This feller never lets an hour go by without tweeting something.

Look like he's gone AWOL.

I'm really enjoying his discomfort.

He'll tip up soon with some link to a BS blog wringing his hands on Starmer's actions but urging that the left should keep their heads down and remember what the prize is.

A clueless duffer who who's learned zero in 40 odd years of labourist politics.

You haven’t got a clue about who and what the Labour Party should represent mate.

He's elected to what mate? The general election?

Starmer and the Labour Party machine are just looking to bury people. It won't stop here. Having spoken to/been around a number, they are exceptionally angry people deigned to join their party in the hope it might build a fairer Britain. The idea it was a party for ordinary people, and not dominated by MP's interests was too toxic for them to take.

You only need to see the leaks, the way they spoke about wanting to pour petrol on a young lad who suffered with mental health dificulties, or how they would laugh at women's clothes etc to see what tehy think of people. Christ even Andy Burnham said they sabotaged him on the basis of his northern, working class background.

This is a very loud message, to the people who gave up their time to help them- you don't matter, you will never matter, and don't ever deign to express an opinion that you might anymore.

Mason is being told what he needs to write by Starmer currently. While his column will attack Starmer it will attack Corbyn more and normalise the attacks on him.

It will reads omething like;
"Keir has acted rashly but he has to be seen to be strong in re-positioning Labour, Corbyn made many mistakes and his lack of commitment to tackling anti-semitism left him no option. I warned everyone of this and they didn't listen to them. You should stay, wate your time campaigning for people who detest you and want you out of their party, and those who tell you that you should be treated with more respect are Stalinists so best to ignore them".

That will be the guff. Obviously much better presented than I have managed, and expect some obscure and misunderstood link to Lacan or the French New Left & Antonio Gramsci.

....it still doesn’t make what has gone on in the Labour Party right.

I can only talk for myself. As a life long Labour voter I welcome the findings of this enquiry and the subsequent action of Sir Keir Starmer. It’s going to take a long time to reverse the Corbyn years.

It doesn't make it right. But when will there be a bit of balance.

I think Starmer is a shoe in for the general election mate - the way Johnson has handled the pandemic and the track and trace debacle Starmer could moonie the cameras and play his arse cheeks like a bongo and still win.

Which is why I think he's using this time to do a bit of a spring clean in the party so to speak - he's untouchable at the moment.

sorry for repeating myself but I was sat near him last year during the hustings to select the Vauxhall candidate; was amazed at what an entourage he appeared to have

It's a good summary of the function.

I don't know how to summarise in a particularly intelligent way, but unless the members/unions of the party can organise themselves in a coherent way for a fight, and give Starmer/the right of the prty a counter balance, we will be routed.

This "please be nice to us sir Keir" act has to stop now.
It's very early in Starmer's leadership. He got to be leader by cultivating the left. He had to do that to win office. He can be stopped in his tracks by others underlining to him that the PLP is only one location of power within the labour movement and that if he relies on that and alienates the unions and the membership his own ambitions to be PM are in the bin.
He has a choice: truckle to big business and be the king of the PLP and hope the Tories are in such a mess in 4 years that they'll be called off the subs bench as Blair was offering the same tired free market nonsense that saw Labour rejected under Brown and Miliband; or take the whole labour movement with him and challenge the Tories offering an alternative.

For me, the answer is already given with his actions since he became leader.

Mental that Tony Blair is the only Labour leader to win an election with a real working majority since 1966. Nineteen Sixty Six. Blimey.
