Very disappointed with Starmer sacking long bailey , i think he is playing to the pro Israel gallery and trying to impress the right wing media , think this is more about the purge of the left and now nobody who has Socialist views will be demoted or kicked out , i think this is back to blair days pfi iraq war etc

Starmer's human rights achievements:

  • Allowed copers who killed Ian Tomlinson to walk free
  • Allowed coppers who assassinated Jean Charles Menezes to walk free
  • Wouldn't prosecute MI5 and MI6 officers for torture of 3 Libyan dissidents
  • Wouldn't prosecute coppers who went undercover and started families and wrecked peoples lives
  • Proponent of a 'superdtabase' to retain records and advance spying on the UK population - repackaged later as the Investigative Powers Act brought in by the Cameron Government, which Starmer - then a Labour MP, supported
  • Worked with Swedish lawyers looking to extradite Julian Assange
...but, yeah, the McLibel case.

Check your facts before diving in and making a fool of yourself. Again.

Dave the copper (singular) who killed Tomlinson was charged with manslaughter but was found not guilty. He was not “allowed to walk free” by Starmer.

Another great headline from the JC that.

Nothing like kicking your mate in the teeth with those former headlines. And now u -turn. Nothing like a 'principled stand' from the JC and the Labour party and all that, over who meets who.

That's not what it says though, and I agree that would be antisemitic. It says they learned that specific technique from them. Which may or may not be true. The Israelis deny it, so I suppose they get the benefit of the doubt.

There is a LOT of pictoral evidence of it being used on Palestinians, though. That doesn't necessarily prove it, mind.

Choke and carotid holds go back a hell of a long time in the States. Peake trying to bring Israel into the equation shows, at best, she's biased.

This, from 1991 shows the harshest form ( choke hold ) was being discussed with a view to re-allowing it ( it was used in the 70's and 80's ) back then, and carotid holds are mentioned as well.

The Israeli state can be blamed for many things, but linking them to the situation in the States is just bizarre.

Great balanced view.

Even if you were right which shock you aren’t, he’s still achieved more than you ever will. Cycling around slating the common man and posting on here all day about how everybody is scum.

Comparing him to Blair, a man born into privilege who was in politics before he turned 30 just highlights your sheer ignorance of the topic.

David Renton, a well known socialist barrister declared he was “one of us” when standing for the Labour leadership.

He had “dedicated his career to defending workers and trade unions”, as a barrister he was “a principled opponent of state power”.

And you compare him to a career politician.

I suppose you’ll declare that you know better than a card carrying socialist who actually worked with the guy though. Your insight knows no bounds.
Ive given you a list of human rights violations that Starmer waved through and / or encouragesd. You give me the name of some biff who endorsed him as LP leader.

You're out of your depth here, sonny Jim.

He was in the first instance, then a public outcy forced the CPS to prosecute.

Imagine if a Marxist group told the LP what to do and who to sack, and they obediently complied.

You just don’t get it.

Nobody is saying he’s done nothing wrong in his career. Like when Corbyn bottled it on Brexit.

I’m saying you’re ignorant comparing him to Blair based on the fact they were both Barristers and aren’t hard left. They are totally different.

I am not his biggest fan but he is doing the right things if we ever want a labour Government in power again, basically let Boris cock up, we have had an open goal in the last two GE and messed it up by backing a man the masses could not get behind and a party not in touch with its own heartlands.
People thinking a far left party is ever going to win a GE are just doing the tories job for them giving them an easy win in the ballot box, and unfortunately as responsible as a tory supporter for giving us a Boris led government.
My natural instincts are for a left leaning government but its a pipe dream unless we play the game and get in to power.
So far so good as far as I am concerned and it is a good thing he isn't like a Blair or a Cameron who smarmed their way to leadership. The worry is we have 4 more years of Boris and what damage will he do in that time. Considering the position he took over the Labour party can be quite pleased at their current poll ratings. Chipping away each week and will continue to do so the more mistakes Boris and co make.
