Current Affairs The Labour Party

Both of those critiques could be used to get rid of people on the right of the party though, now and in the future. If someone agrees with Woodcock publicly now, for example, should they be kicked out of the Shadow Cabinet?

I said it's harsh. Hell, if it were Corbyn doing it, the word "purge" would be cheekily being used by me.

However, in the context of anti-semitism, he had to do it quickly and decisively, and if the net result is a benefit to his restructure plans for Labour, then that's just an added bonus.

Pictures of that technique being used on Palestinians by Israeli soldiers and police aren't exactly difficult to find. Just sayin'.

Doesn't amount to conclusive proof that it's official training, although it clearly is, off the record, given the number of pictures that exist, and it's easy enough to deny that it's been taught to US police, and calling Israelis liars is antisemitic, don't ya know.

Silly, silly RLB. Thought she'd know better by now. Disappointing.

To say the US cops only became thugs after Israeli training is absolute anti-semitism, as well as deeply ignorant about the history of the US.

How it happened timeline:

  • Long Bailey retweeted the Peake interview
  • Long Bailey then asked the LP leaders office to ok a clarification of her retweet - they agree and ok it
  • the Jewish Board of Deputies contacted the LP leaders office to 'suggest' they sack RLB
  • Starmer's office agree to the request of the Jewish Board of Deputies.

An utter disgrace on every level.

Turd of a leader.

That's not what it says though, and I agree that would be antisemitic. It says they learned that specific technique from them. Which may or may not be true. The Israelis deny it, so I suppose they get the benefit of the doubt.

There is a LOT of pictoral evidence of it being used on Palestinians, though. That doesn't necessarily prove it, mind.

There’s the article.

Why did she think sharing such a thing was a good idea.
That article is a good example of why Labour is so unpopular.

No doubt this.

What would be the consequence of him just sacking her on day one?

He wouldn’t have sacked her, just not picked her in the Shadow Cabinet.

Consequences-wise, he will lose support from the left, and as there are a lot of left wing people in the party this is going to make getting change in the party more difficult, as well as (more importantly) start to reduce the amount of people they have volunteering.

More importantly though it sets a precedent he will find it really difficult to live up to, both with the left and the right. RLB may not be a hill people are going to die on, but you can expect the next Shadow Minister who tweets some support for an odious being like some of the ex-PLP types (Woodcock, Austin etc) will get attacked with calls for their resignation.

It’s absolutely, 100%, untrue.

All pictorial evidence shows is that the contempt someone must have for another individual is not something confined to the US.

Earlier on in the day Starmer refused to back calls for the sacking of corrupt Tory Minister Jenrick who's been handing million pound deals the way of his mates, but thinks it's the right thing to do to sack a LP shadow minister for retweeting an article by Maxine Peake.

Wouldn't give half an hour over to investigatiing it and getting all sides of the issue, but has kicked into the long grass the right wing LP officials admission that they sabotaged the party chances of a win in 2017.
