Current Affairs The Labour Party

How refreshing though. Quick decisive leadership, not allowing any attack line for the Tories.

My hope in Starmer grows. Still work to be done to save Labour obviously but these are very encouraging signs.

Not sure.

Shouldn't sack senior cabinet members because of the opposition.

Harsh, and seems just like he's waited for any excuse.

Also, there's a lot to be said for loyalty.

Too much of a coward to attack the Tories overseeing a disaster, he attacks socialists in the Labout Party.

All those party members who voted for him you can now repent at leisure. You 'kin mugs.

...meanwhile, all the abusers of people like Abbot in the LP go unpunished.

This is the current leader's bid to shift the party right past the centre ground and over to the right.

An ineffectual leader trying to make himself look strong on a massive pretext.

Of course, the vermin in the media will love it.

There’s the article.

Why did she think sharing such a thing was a good idea.
Why was it a bad idea? Is there nothing that can be 'liked' about criticism of a deadly quasi paramilitary force like the IDF?

Dont talk 'kin daft.

No he's sacked them due to Labour weakness regarding anti semitism.

The message is it won't be tolerated anymore. Therefore the attack line is obliterated.

After Corbyn simply existing, anti semitism was one of Labour's biggest electoral weaknesses.

I get his justification, but it's a weak one.

If he believes she's an anti-semite, then his judgement stinks considering he has endorsed her repeatedly over the years.

Strong leadership isn't taking the coward, quick and easy option. Strong leadership would have been binning her off immediately, rather than waiting for the opportunity.

Goes beyond that really. The headline of the article said if you didn't vote Corbyn you're a Tory. Way to win people back, a really constructive thing for a Labour frontbencher to back.

No, while it's harsh, clearly he wanted any excuse to get rid because shes the epitome of a failed ideology and already a political relic. Had to be done, and for me the blame lies mostly on Long Bailey for not having a brain and backing that piece publicly.

Both of those critiques could be used to get rid of people on the right of the party though, now and in the future. If someone agrees with Woodcock publicly now, for example, should they be kicked out of the Shadow Cabinet?

Context isn't it?

You can share something, without agreeing or endorsing absolutely every bit of it.

I mean, the Premier League can support BLM without endorsing every bit of it (defund police/abolish capitalism) - can't they?

I just think it's smart. He's inherited a party with a wildly left membership base who have admitted defeat and allowed him in, but ultimately still exist. He has to be seen as a unifier or he'll be accused of the same thing Corbyn did which was essentially gutting the PLP and having his own little cadre.

So for me it's about getting rid of the Momentum relics gradually and shaping the party in his image. He's not in an electoral cycle; he has five years to get it right. Showing himself as decisive on a Labour weakness and getting rid of a frontbencher he wants nowhere near the cabinet in the medium to long term is a win win.
