Lots of people tweeting and linking American newspapers reporting on the fact that police forces in that country had in fact received advice, training or both from Israeli police or security forces.

It seems to me there was nowt wrong with Ms. Peake’s article and by extension, Ms. Long-Bailey’s reponse to it.

In the meantime, Netanyahu is continuing to annex Palestinian land and his security forces continue to murder Palestinian people with impunity.

Whilst the world buries its head or turns it away in shame....all for fear of being accused of “anti-semitism”.

You have to hand it to the Isreali lobby....they have managed to equate even the mildest criticism of that country’s repression of Palestinians with “anti-semitism” and silenced governments the world over.

And to my embarrassment, the leader of the party I have supported all my life.

TBF that a lot of people saw nothing wrong with what Peake said shows what a problem we have.

Nothing wrong at all with an actress expressing her opinion to a journalist, it's very diamond...

However, is it in the realm of a shadow education minister to fawn over the excerpt of said interview, with something as contentious as Mr Floyd was killed by police trained by the Israeli security services...

Would a GCSE student get away with such flippancy, let alone the Shadow minister of Education. Highlights poor judgement for the office she holds.

Maybe it was a deliberate by Bailey. I firmly believe all current Labour shadow cabinet have been warned about this very subject since it's inception.

the Bo Jo looks very smart.....

It certainly wasn’t the brightest thing to do........

David Rosenberg (a Jew, of course) on Twitter:

"Conspiracy theories are all about unearthing secret plotting by sinister powerful groups, revealing a hidden hand. Over many decades fascist groups have advanced antisemitic conspiracy theories, which target Jewish individuals or small groups as responsible for social, economic and political developments which they abhor.

Fascists rail against mass immigration to the West, calling it the “Great Replacement”. They claim to see the “hidden hand” of Jews behind this. Very right wing politicians in several countries like Trump, Orban, Netanyahu, Rees Mogg see the hidden hand of Hungarian Jew George Soros behind protest movements and pro-migrant, pro-refugee movements.

When @Keir_Starmer and @BoDPres , Marie Van der Zyl attack Maxine Peake’s claim that American police had learned a certain deadly police tactic from training sessions with Israeli counterparts, and Starmer sacks Rebecca Long-Bailey for sharing Peake’s interview, describing it unequivocally as a “Jewish Conspiracy Theory”, they completely empty that term of all its meaning.

Police kneeling on the neck of an individual they are apprehending – goes back several decades in US policing of black communities. It precedes cooperation with Israeli services. But Peake's general point was sound: Israeli security units have run seminars for US counterparts.

An article published in the liberal Israeli daily, Ha’aretz, in August 2017 reported: 24,000 American police were trained by Israeli counterparts. There is no conspiracy here. The information is out in the open. The people leading the seminars were the Israeli National Police. Peake's remarks, and those in Ha'aretz, make no comment on Jews in general but on a unit of the Israeli state.

If criticism of Israeli office holders is "antisemitic", then we place off-limits criticism of anything oppressive or discriminatory or lethal done by anyone Israeli.

My two questions to @Keir_Starmer are: Can you explain how Maxine Peake’s comments represent a “Jewish conspiracy theory”, rather than just saying that they do? And how does Rebecca Long Bailey’s tweeting of an article which, at worst, alleges that an Israeli state unit, (not Jews in general) influenced specific policing methods in America, compare with Rachel Reeves' publicly stated admiration for the Hitler/Nazi-supporting antisemite Nancy Astor? Why did you promote her? Why have you not acted against her?"

To be honest if we are to go down this route I would be equally if not more worried about our police force and armed forces involvement with Saudi Arabian state, against its own people and in Yemen.

That was absolutely not Peake's general point, though. She said:

“Systemic racism is a global issue,” she adds. “The tactics used by the police in America, kneeling on George Floyd’s neck, that was learnt from seminars with Israeli secret services.”

As Rosenberg says, that claim is nonsense, and it impossible to read that as making a wider point about the US police being trained by the Israelis.

Isn't biff actually not a very nice word to be using? To be honest I used it before without knowing so perhaps that's it, but could we avoid it?

From your post, I guess you know the condition the insult is derived from. If so, I agree. But I am far from convinced that many dont know the context, and use it in the same manner as Bulb or Divvie.

Yeah me too to be honest. Genuinely I didnt know where it had come from as it was used so freely about a decade ago, in fact even as recently as last year I thought it was interchangeable with meff. Reckon it's just one of those ones as it's used a huge amount
