Current Affairs The Labour Party

I was using the post to make my mandated one serious point per day.

Pete's team took one hell of an electoral blooter to the political knackers a few months ago and if he thinks spreading Telegraph hit pieces and his own doom-laden speculation around might spread a bit of cold water on the ongoing jubilations then let him just carry on amusing nobody but himself, I doubt any hardcore Tory voters were reading Owen Jones articles in 2011 thinking "Oh wow this guy's right, maybe we should actually care about people".

It's also possible that he's right, nothing is guaranteed in politics and no party stays in power forever in a fair democracy. But it's irrelevant because Labour have the power now and it's a bit pointless spending a whole political term worrying about whether you'll get to enjoy another one. The Tories have been playing that game - everything was a cynical, calculated move designed to win another election - and look at their lamentations now, 14 years in No 10 without any major legislative achievements to point at*, no coherent direction of travel and nothing but regrets from all the leadership wannabes that "we weren't Conservative enough".

* Except same sex marriage of course, which is something that the Tory government passed at most of their own MPs' displeasure.
He was never gonna shut his trap, was trying to goad him into it so I could ram it down his throat later. Gotta lay the bear traps and walk em into em. ;)

I think it's Labour laying the traps here. For all Pete's wailing about not being able to bravely keep employing the waifs and strays of the village in his pub due to the increased NI contributions, Badenoch today refused to commit to reducing them again in future. The Tories have seen that cash cow, determined that the economy can actually bear it and decided at some point it's extra funds they can funnel out of the public purse and off into private coffers.

You see Pete, that's the problem with supporting the superwealthy side of the political argument. When they've taken everything from us and it hasn't sated them, they'll be taking it from you next.

Anyway that's enough of all that, who wants more silly pictures?

Governments are hijacking farms all over Europe. In the Netherlands, they’re outright seizing them.

UK laws don’t allow that, so Labour have started to tax farmers more, and will continue to hike it and make farming impossible for independent families, until it’s so expensive that they all have to sell up and government & big tech own the means of food production. The same is happening in Germany, and tech companies are doing it in rural America.

This is Heaven for Labour and the left - have everyone dependent on the state, even to the point where they can’t eat without government control.

This isn’t about ‘filling a Tory black hole’ or ‘getting unpopular policies out of the way early in the election cycle’, it’s about making the population as subservient and dependant as possible, and doing it early so it can’t be reversed 5 years down the line.
You tell them Jamie… you don’t sound deranged at all mate

It’s great watching you lefties celebrating tax increases for farmers and businesses. Of course what you forget is that in four and a half years Starmer and Reeves will be voted into the bin of political failures and a Tory or Tory/Reform coalition will undue all of the harm that you are enjoying at the moment….four and half years and counting……tick tock, tick tock….
You’re deffo not hurting are you mate

Is right Pete.

Can’t wait to go back to the Tory eutopia we’ve been living under the last 14 years.

Posting this here because the issues & lessons from the US election he discusses can be applied to most left leaning parties.

Although the things Aussie Labor have already been doing would be beyond the wildest socialist dreams of most left leaning governments…& they still lost Queensland last month.

Does "offshore processing" in the EU's case (assuming Philp hasn't just made that up entirely) mean that asylum claims would be handled geographically elsewhere but aside from that, successful claimants then onward travel into the relevant EU state? Because if so then it's not comparable to Rwanda at all, the UK were going to force the successful ones to to stay there instead.

I keep seeing "If Rwanda was so bad how come everyone else is now wanting to do it" but haven't yet seen that anybody is. Some German minister said they should look into it and that's somehow taken as evidence Boris was right all along.
