I meant in terms of numbers really. At times it must have been like Zulu;
“Poons Sir…..Fousands of ‘em!”
Not to say Pete didn’t pot a few of the blighters now and then.

Pubs are dying because by and large, the country has changed habits. People stay at home because there is an abundance of entertainment on TVs now, and education on the harms of alcohol are having an impact. For too long bad businesses have been propped up by governments just because they are a pub. The market is still strong enough for many to remain open, just let somebody better at running business take over your pub.

You haven’t a clue do you, come on be honest….

Just seen a video of a ‘shepherdess’ in tears about how the budget is completely unfair . A quick google puts her 680 acre farm on the Isle of Bute at around £10m and she’s set the world record for most expensive sheepdog ever sold (approx £19k) . It’s tough to muster too much sympathy to be honest .

I think there are a few issues with all this. Multi-millionaire investors in land who have done so to bypass IHT should be hit. Family owned farms that have been run for generations should not. If my mate were to die, his son who works on the farm, would inherit and would only have a few options, pay IHT by selling land, no doubt to other investors, or sell to builders. Either way the farm gets smaller and workers get paid off…the country loses more available farming land resulting in a lose lose situation…..

I said it earlier Pete the problem is the Dyson and the clarksons of this world are to blame for buying huge swathes of land in order to cheat the treasury and simultaneously bemoaning the state of the country .

I also said I could probably be persuaded to agree with exemptions but I’m not clever enough to legislate for that .

Also I can see it’d be a bit hard to swallow if city dweller A leaves £500k and is taxed on the excess of the inheritance tax allowance but farmer B whose estate Is valued at ten times that is exempt .
