I said it earlier Pete the problem is the Dyson and the clarksons of this world are to blame for buying huge swathes of land in order to cheat the treasury and simultaneously bemoaning the state of the country .

I also said I could probably be persuaded to agree with exemptions but I’m not clever enough to legislate for that .

Also I can see it’d be a bit hard to swallow if city dweller A leaves £500k and is taxed on the excess of the inheritance tax allowance but farmer B whose estate Is valued at ten times that is exempt .
one size fits all fits no one.

catastrophe's occur. disingenuous cases occur. funny how there's effort to be spent on some but not others.

And your last sentence is a valid point. No family business should have to suffer IHT in my opinion. What can the inheritors who want to keep it going do. Being asset rich but not cash rich means something has to be sold, to the detriment of the business, jobs and tax revenue. It’s just stupid…….

It’s madness for me that the media have spent years , literally years , talking about greedy train drivers or nurses asking for too much money and these people are accused of ‘bleeding the country dry ‘ but now I’m supposed to outraged someone with an estate worth £10m might have to pay the same tax as everybody else in the country .

Frankly I also think it’s beyond outrageous that the Duke of Westminster leaves £9.5 BILLION and they don’t pay a penny .

I'll have to revisit this. My apologies.

The grandparent bank of care.

Where was it eroded?

My heart bleeds. The tax revenue bit made me laugh out loud, he does know that farmers put all sorts of things such as new vehicles on the farm account as work expenses and avoiding things such as VAT etc right?
I was aiming at the 'childcare' bomb and the saga enjoyers.

Life begins at 60 and all that tripe. Responsibility and accountability. "I knew my grandparents and was cared for whilst my parents went out to work" - now?

I'm alright Jack.

Again.

I must have imagined Labour constantly talking about the free market and wanting growth to come from the private sector.

These are as capitalist as the Labour Party has ever been.

They’ve just realised working people can’t be hit anymore and it’s time for others to take on some of the burden.
