They go on about 'choices' the Starmer Gang.

Well they made choices today: they agreed to hand a full pay review settlement of 22% to junior doctors and then denied a winter fuel payment of a few hundred quid to 10 million pensioners, many of whom will be reliant on it.

Everyone should reflect on what message that sends out.
Less doctors leaving to work abroad so pensioners will have better access to healthcare.

The boomers could also downsize their houses, sell at a reasonable price to people with families that need large houses while still making a tidy profit (seeing as they bought it for 30k 40 years ago with mum and dad's help), and use that money to keep warm.

Indeed, they could always sell up and move somewhere cheaper. Old age care on the continent, or even further afield in places like Thailand and the Philippines is phenomenal and is at a fraction of the cost compared to its UK equivalent.

We all have to make sacrifices and as someone who works 48 hours a week, don't own my own home and very much doubt that the State Pension will exist when I retire in about 40 to 50 years time, I'm sick and tired of subsidizing those people who have achieved wealth that I can only dream of, but believe that they have a God given right to everything for free just because they've reached a certain age.

This is a generation of people who were fortunate enough to have been born at a time when it was still possible to buy a house on one person's salary but have pretty much pulled up the ladder for their children and grandchildren by overwhelmingly voting for Brexit and continuing to vote for a political party who gave them everything they ever wanted, to the tune of £60bn, whilst at the same time slashing public services to the bone marrow.

Fair play to those people who realise that they don't need the WFA and have accepted the governments decision to restrict the WFA to the most needy, as government support should always be. It was daft, my uncle was a millionaire yet could still claim WFA. Like a lot of people, he gave it and his state pension away to charity, but, it is still a cost on the public purse that has to be paid for by the hardworking taxpayer.

I see they are now going to remove the limit on care home costs. There’s going to be a lot of very poor pensioners who scrimped and saved to buy a small home having to sell it to pay for this…seems to be getting a bit nasty towards pensioners now and only three weeks in. Meanwhile the Doctors have poured scorn on the 22% pay offer and want 35%….welcome to our new caring society……
Why shouldn't pensioners pay for their own care costs?

I thought a dyed in the wool Tory was all about personal responsibility?

@davi
I just gave it to you: the government of this country can do wtf it wants - if needs to print money or borrow it on the markets it can do that.

You have the case of a financial crisis and pandemic that demonstrates that governments use spending to stop a meltdown.

Why on earth are you defending this austerity?

@davek you were spot on about Starmer - Listening to LBC -Carol Vordaman just now loads of bedridden pensioners telephoning in will never vote Labour again - Age concern estimate 2 million do not claim pension credit as they are too proud to go cap in hand for most benefits including pension credit - one caller stated they are the nasty party -

Corol Vordaman stated she was shocked - how about bankers bonuses the millionaires etc-

She stated rich pensioners over £49, 000 do not need the winter fuel allowance, that's who should have lost the fuel allowance - there are some millionaire pensioners etc -

& the scrapping of projects - that would have given employment ? Where is the growth coming from ? even the pot holes in our roads not being sorted....

Starmer quote no austerity from us - Billy Liar !

The Chancellor today -It's only the beginning - bye bye in 4 years ....

Yes, they all love Johnny Foreigner, the Brexit and Reform voting flag molesters. That'll work.

Yes. So they can live in another home... a care home.

Why is that not right for wider society?
OK your Mum or Father get put in what I call a concrete coffin care home & your inheritance pays for it all - I think you would see it differently- plus when the funds run out they will expect you to pay .....

I have experienced this by the way with my Mother in law - the social services tell you nothing I asked it for the information in writing - got a rubbish reply in writing - the home told me we would be liable for payment when her money ran out - & you think that's fair ?

The social services just lied - every council is different - My auntie died & a £1800, 000 house her son got 18 grand as she died with dementia after being in a home for over ten years .... If she had cancer, she would have got the home free - under NHS continuous care - The NHS are reluctant to hand that out to any other illness in an old person ... tell me if that's fair ?

The entire Labour ehos is getting the actual cost of energy down, this will benefit everyone that's where the focus is going, alongside better insulation etc. We had our privately owed home insulated by welsh government 5 years back. The results have been amazing in lowering our gas usage overall.
Under ED Milliband you are living in na na land ,,,,
