Depends what rises they received beforehand…have the private sector had similar ?…..
Isn't the supposed strength of the private sector that it is self regulating and based on market forces, competition and performance?

Any below inflation pay rises are clearly due to poor performance by companies and individuals. Right?

What performance measures do the public sector use……
It's not comparing apples and pears Pete. The private sector is freer to set pay than the public sector and it depends in performance, off their own back. Which is exactly a Tory ethos.

Public sector pay has been consistently below inflation for a long time, meaning real terms cuts in pay. Ideologically held down in the most part by our Tory chums.

Sorry Pete, public sector pay in health and primary, secondary and further education is frankly so uncompetitive it really runs the risk of not attracting staff. Or good quality staff.

I’ve said earlier that pay in the lower reaches of health, education etc should be addressed, but we all know it will be applied across the board, and those who are already well remunerated will just pick up a bigger wedge. In the same way Reeves is targeting the more wealthy pensioner with her Winter allowance cut, pay rises in the public sector should be done by who needs what, but we all know that will not happen……

It's a tough one because, using health as the example, the public sector isn't immune from market forces. Hold down doctors pay and many start looking to leave the UK. Or go private (a lot can and do set up some form of private practice alongside NHS work).

It's the same with teaching. Stem graduates don't want to know in the main.

You could level the same argument about the private sector tbh. But then one might be accused of the politics of envy. Because the bigwigs are all hard working deserving geniuses, right? But the public sector ones are lazy muppets. Yeah, I can smell the Daily Telegraph hard in this line of thinking.

The duplicitous scumbag - three months ago.

They go on about 'choices' the Starmer Gang.

Well they made choices today: they agreed to hand a full pay review settlement of 22% to junior doctors and then denied a winter fuel payment of a few hundred quid to 10 million pensioners, many of whom will be reliant on it.

Everyone should reflect on what message that sends out.

Was there another option Dave ?

Yes, tell the truth to begin with.

And by the way: they talk about £20B shortfalls that have to be made up, well the last Labour Government made the choice of bailing out the banksters to the tune of £500B in 2008/2009.

The money can be found for special interests in this society, but not for the weak and vulnerable.
