…..I’m an OAP and Mrs Eggs joins the ranks in October. It’s a bit daft that we get winter fuel allowance and whilst I appreciate there’s plenty who struggle, my understanding is those on Pensioner Credit will still get the payment.

The Chancellor did state that the Winter Fuel Allowance would be restricted to those in receipt of Pension Credit or "certain other means-tested benefits". So it's not necessarily just those on Pension Credit.

So the softening up process ‘worst set of accounts since WW2’ and ‘we’ve discovered a £20Bn black hole which we didn’t know about’ will culminate in the new Chancellor telling us all that tough decisions (tax rises) will have to take place in the next budget. Even though the numbers have been made available by the OBR for 14 years it’s come as ‘a complete shock’. Anyway, enjoy the tax rises and the hit to your future pension funds (of course any pension cap doesn’t apply to Starmer, amazing that isn’t it). Monday should be fun when this con is finally admitted to……
I like the bit where it was announced the Covid money is going to be clawed back from various Tory cronies (and in some cases, Tories themselves ) and they end up in the nick.

I’m sure you are right, but it can get complicated when people have partners/married etc. You also get situations where there are actual differences in Winter weather requiring differing costs, I.e. someone in the north of Scotland versus Bournemouth. Deciding what is ‘fair’ should have been thought through and discussed with charities like Help the Aged to get it right and not just bounced through a few weeks after entering office. Brown ruined private pensions, looks like Reeves is going to finish the job. Feels like giving money to your own supporters while removing it from those who may not support you…
You would think so. The Tories had 14 years to decide what fair was so they were either too lazy or too stupid to do it. Tbf, a combination of both seems the likely reason.

I'm a pensioner who has been saying for a long while that it's wasteful to give the likes of me a pot of money in the winter. Glad, of course, that poorer pensioners won't be affected but I think she's right to have ended what was in essence a Tory bribe.
Could the above inflation public sector rises be seen as a Laboyr bribe, then...?

I daresay it will be. By some. Others will see workforces at the end of their tether. Therein lies the diffeernce, I guess: pensioners not needing the dosh who will vote Tory as regularly as clockwork and who need to be kept sweet v public service workers who actually need the cash - and who we need to stay in their jobs.

Pensioners getting winter fuel allowance, who earn more than working people who get nothing, was always absurd. And as pointed it out it was essentially a Tory bribe to their core base. However, hopefully it wont affect those on the borderline and it’s a flexible cut for those in that category.

Also when the main budget comes there better be some rich bashing policies otherwise it’s not a good look alongside the 3rd child benefit policy.

Both my parents, both over 80, just fail the limit for pension credit. Will lose £600 a year, both voted Labour, as did I at the last general election, and have done all their lives - it will be the last time. An appallingly shocking decision from a supposed Labour government. A kick in the guts for people who have scrimped and saved a little for retirement. They disgust me.

No mention of going after the rich millionaires, Billionaires ? Just clobber Pensioners - Starmer no austerity broken in 2 weeks ..... A Tory wearing a red rosette - adult care allowance being taken away too FGS - Starmer has duped the voters IMO
Just like he duped the Labour members when going for the Labour Leadership gig with Socialist pledges.

Turkey's voting for Christmas on both counts.

Someone with the title Sir shouldn't be anywhere near the Labour movement and anyone with half a brain should of been able to see it.

You could always have donated it to Help the Aged…
