You're missing the point - voting 'Labour' gets you what you get rid of.

If you doubt that then hand me a list of Starmer's policies that will be a clear deviation from what the Tories are offering.

Just to bring some balance here, to say there’s no difference between the parties is incorrect.

Would the Tory Party be committing to implementing an employment rights bill in the first 100 days of a new parliament? A policy which Mick Lynch and the TUC are backing. Or repealing the recent anti-trade union laws introduced by the Tories? Or scrapping the Rwanda asylum policy?

We can say that this isn’t bold enough, and doesn’t go far enough, and I might even agree, but one step in the right direction is better than ten in the wrong direction.

We arent voting for Policies, Policies mean very little, nobody ever does what they say they will.

"We" are voting to get rid of the cesspit rancid Tory Party.

Yeah, yeah, "Nu-Tory, Tory-Lite", but as ive said in the past, its not full fat Tory, so it will have to do.

Whats the alternative Dave?

Throw your vote down the cliff by voting for the Greens?

You may as well vote Tory, you probably will.

Your mentality is the reason we’ve had a corrupt labour council for a decade.

They hold us in contempt. They know their vote is safe no matter what so they have cart balance to behave how they please when in office.

It needs to change. We need to show as a city we won’t blindly vote for Labour because they’re not the tories anymore.

You are free to vote how you want mate.

But sure, we can teach them a lesson, at some point in the future, for now we need to get rid of the cancer that plagues this Island.

And what does that give you ..another 13 years of the Tories, don't know about you or Dave but I've just about had enough.

Brilliant. So you get a days worth of gloating then 5 years of policies that carry on privatisation and austerity.

Tell me where the change is coming from that makes sense for anyone placing an 'x' next to some 'Labour' Party right wing drone's name for...

Don't think Dave quite gets this..you can't change anything without being in POWER.
Let's have some ultra left wing policies and continue shouting from the back benchers and the periphery of everything, whilst the Tories just gloat and ban trades unions from striking # Gill Keegan. Yeah I would rather take my chances with Starmer and the Labour Party thanks.

is that like the cart before the horse?

@davek

It's wonderful to see you as active in the Tory party forum, dolling out the criticism for their crimes as you are with criticising the Labour Party on things that haven't happened yet...or ever likely to happen.

It seems you're on it. You're reeeeeaaally reeeeeaaally on it.

Carry on.

Look at who's pumping cash into the LP now...

Thats Reeves and Starmer smart talking about taxation, normally Tories do this and are currently. As when inflation rises, the value of money decreases, which can push people into higher tax brackets even if their real income hasn’t increased. And inflation can lead to higher prices for goods and services, which can increase the amount of sales tax collected by governments. Not something politicians like to admit. Sunak is planning massive giveaways on the back of these windfalls.

Agree with a lot of that but under the current set of circumstances, there are 2 parties that have any chance of winning an election. Not voting for one of them, allows the other to get into or stay in power. If there was another left option who could realistically get in, i'd be binning Labour in a flash, but there isnt.

Instead of moaning about how crap Labour are, or how Tory Lite they are (both points I can agree with to an extent) we need to vote for a party who will push through electoral reform. Only when we have that will people's votes actually matter and parties cannot get complacent, take people for granted and renege on promises.

There is only one party out of the Tories and Labour who will even entertain reform so thats where we need to go. Once they get in (I say hopefully) we should be demanding it.

@Amw79 re employment rights bill in the first 100 days of a new parliament:

Let's wait and see about that.

As Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “As with all things, the devil will be in the detail and the words on the page."

re repealing anti-trade union laws - yes, VERY recent anti-trade union laws and not the full repeal demanded by Mick Lynch that goes back too the 1980s when the real damage was done.

I'll tell you what I fully expect to see when Starmer becomes PM: a reshuffle of the 'team' with Rayner being forced out to the margins and a massive dilution of promises made so far on workers conditions..he's probably reassured the captains of industry already that these policies won't take shape.

Well, yeah. We can’t judge the implementation of those things until (if) they get in power.

You asked about any differences in policy. They are pretty clear differences, including the Rwanda scheme cancellation which you didn’t mention.

Yeah, I’d like to see them go further with the Trade Union laws, but as I said in the original post, 1 step in the right direction is better than 10 in the wrong one.
