Well, yeah. We can’t judge the implementation of those things until (if) they get in power.

You asked about any differences in policy. They are pretty clear differences, including the Rwanda scheme cancellation which you didn’t mention.

Yeah, I’d like to see them go further with the Trade Union laws, but as I said in the original post, 1 step in the right direction is better than 10 in the wrong one.

Please educate me. Half the UK has been on strike, on and off, for 2 years. So what do you believe needs to be done with union laws?

To be fair, the main objection I have is around the recent changes in ballot turnout minimum thresholds, which if not outright undemocratic, is at the least wildly inconsistent with other democratic processes.

There’s other pieces of older legislation around picketing restrictions, and postal only ballot returns, which while relatively minor, all point in the same direction of putting more barriers in front of industrial action.

Your mentality is the reason we’ve had a corrupt labour council for a decade.

They hold us in contempt. They know their vote is safe no matter what so they have cart balance to behave how they please when in office.

It needs to change. We need to show as a city we won’t blindly vote for Labour because they’re not the tories anymore.
So advise me who I should vote for. Which left wing party do you believe will get into power? Since I have been entitled to vote only parties eschewing lw policies have got near power in parliament 1978 to now. And I agree this city has been poorly served by Labour including 97-2010.

I think those two employment-related policies about as good as it gets - if they are, indeed, implemented.

I don't believe Starmer will implement them though. Not fully. They'll be watered down to a shadow of what is now promised. How do I *know* this: I look at his string of broken promises when he stood as leader.

Fair enough, but you’ve now moved the goalposts to a place where you won’t accept any answer to your original question - what policy differences are there.

Any differences pointed out, will just be dismissed by saying ‘it won’t be implemented, it will be a broken promise, it’s a lie etc etc’

Which is fine, but you’ve hermetically sealed yourself in an unfalsifiable position.

Thats Reeves and Starmer smart talking about taxation, normally Tories do this and are currently. As when inflation rises, the value of money decreases, which can push people into higher tax brackets even if their real income hasn’t increased. And inflation can lead to higher prices for goods and services, which can increase the amount of sales tax collected by governments. Not something politicians like to admit. Sunak is planning massive giveaways on the back of these windfalls.
Reeves is a Tory to her core. She won't go near any taxation measures that trouble the rich. Doesn't matter what the circumstances around inflation and placing some people in a higher tax band that weren't meant to be taxed highly. She is a pure Thatcherite in economic policy.

Any decent chancellor to be would promise to put a tax on land too.

Well, given that Starmer is a proven liar, he's sown the seeds of that suspicion and deserves any scepticism.

I don't say policies will be ditched as much as I say they'll be altered down to a point where they won't make a difference. That;s been Starmer's Labour MO.

Would you prefer a Tory win over labour in the next election Dave?

CBA going through all this thread,so is that a yes?

I can't see the difference is the short answer. Not in substance. Both have a commitment to deregulation and privatisation of the NHS, both want to reform planning, both want to keep the shackles on public spending and carry on austerity.

Oh yeah, Starmer wants to reverse the Rwandan policy on booting out migrants to that place...he just wants to replace it by...erm...toughening up border controls to...erm...boot out migrants before they touch land.

Dave was never this volatile against the Tories, he's found his calling, he's absolutely terrified of the Labour Party getting in. All this after 13 years of incompetence, greed, grift, lies and division, but let's hate Labour. Save you're breath matey.
