The Kenwright Generations

Kenwright has always been very much of a "mixed bag" for me. He clearly loved the club, but he did make HUGE mistakes and led us to some of the worst periods in our history.

As the song suggests, we shouldn't ignore history.

Facts:
EVERTON HAD NOT FINISHED IN THE TOP 5 SINCE 1988 - Prior to Kenwright owning us in 1999
MOYES TOOK US TO 4th IN 2004 / 05 - (16 years since 1988)
MARTINEZ TOOK US TO 5th IN 2013 / 14 - Also under Kenwright

Everton were absolutely torrid before Kenwright got Moyes into the club and worse before his ownership...
Whatever we think of mediocrity under both of them, it was FAR better than the alternative of relegation and probable bankruptcy..

I'm not saying these are the best we should hope for, I'm saying that facts matter and that we should not be imagining it was all cups and victories prior to the change of ownership

With the way some speak here, you'd think that the club had been a medal factory for 80 years until he showed up. It has had some very high peaks, but a heck of a lot of mediocrity in between those peaks. I'm not even defending the guy, just trying to be realistic about the history of results.

None of that matters now, though. What we have now is the opportunity to look forward.

That we have people here bringing up his name to have a moan about supporters is truly pathetic.

Not that small Joey his shareholdering allowed his poisonous nephew to take control of them.
Yes that was his choice - he had opposition though - John Moore's was a Mancunian - but loved back then Everton's style of football his money he invested he got paid back, but the success his money gave our club - he got the majority back - his son supported the other lot - hence with his Dads Littlewoods fortune invested in them .....

Evidently John Moore's was ruthless businessman at our club ran it like his Littlewoods Empire .....

BANG ON SIR!!!

There is quite a bit of a difference between keeping Moyes for another year and 20 years of Kenwright making decisions at the top of the club.

We shouldn't now make absolutely rash decisions to make up for the lack of them previously, as it could end us in the exactly same position. Nowhere, or worse.

If there is a world class manager out there that wants to come then I'm sure most would think okay. Go for it. If we get rid of Moyes and then start scratching around to see who might be available then that is pretty stupid. I guess we would hope the club keep an eye out on the managerial situation at all times and regularly check in with potential candidates to see if we'd be something they would be interested in.
Id say spending another god knows on players Moyes isn't going to play would be pretty rash, as would buying players just to fit Moyes antiquated way of playing football.

The club was ranked as one of the most successful in English football and it’s kind of ironic that the club retains its motto considering what has happened over the years and the narratives made along with it.

It is pretty telling that more often than not the first go to is to look at the negative things that have happened on the pitch such as relegation battles as some sort of barrier or excuse as to why the club seems incapable of ever pushing on to be competitive at the very top.

If people want to forget this fellas custodianship then forget on the pitch matters as well and look forward. Wanting to do better and being frustrated at the constant one step forward two step back routine is a normal reaction . Every club has had their terrible periods. Look recently at Aston Villa , a big club relegated and now they are European finalists hoping to add another Euro trophy to their honours list. I don’t hear them constantly talking about being careful what they wish for.

Something has been well off for a long time at this club, the press coverage during his time here .especially reeked of corporate compliance , always with the same narratives and buzz words and the end result was the club never really went anywhere.

That's not rash, you know what you are getting. Could say it is stupid to waste another year perhaps, but it's up to others to put checks and balances on Moyes regarding your point. For instance Dibling should be sent out on loan to help him progress and protect our investment. If Moyes says he wants him, our leadership structure should say why given he hasn't played hardly a minute here, if he really wants him to stay then he should hit a minimum number of appearances/minutes.

Moyes does my head in just as much as he does to everyone else but people forget how quickly we went downhill as we chopped and changed and lost the fabric of what we are. That takes time to repeat build and stick, if we get to the end of next year in the same place then absolutely it would be the right time to shake hands and say goodbye.

Bill's worm food, let it go...

Can't keep looking through the f'ing rearview mirror or you go headlong into traffic.

His worst thing wasn’t investing in Everton and holding onto his train set the real damage he has caused is to generations of Evertonian to have zero ambition and be scared of their own shadows.

I have seen these three phrases appear on this forum.

“It could be worse we could be…”

“Be careful what you wish for”

“Another season of stability will do”

Anyone familiar with Kenwrights body do work will be familiar we these phrases during his tenure especially during the original Moyes years.

He’s created a whole generation of losers and he’s even impacted generations who have seen Everton on top of the world.

If Spurs motto is to dare it to do ours should be never dare and never do.

Be better, demand more and forget Kenwright.
It would have been nice for the bullsitter to actually invest in us, instead he borrowed of his friends and paid back at inflated rates so they could all make a few quid of us. He was a leech. The best thing is the fact he is the least successful chairman in our history, couldn’t even match Peter Johnson.

I’d forgotten about him until you mentioned him, perhaps you should.

This is the absolute epitome of Moyes mentality.

I get the circumstances were different and there’s some context to each statement, but does anyone REALLY believe Moyes would say what Martinez stated?
Tbf, the circumstances arent massively different to when he’s come back.
Sure Moyes left a team to Martinez that was top 7, but equally Moyes has inherited a team with a new stadium, new wealthy owners and a new level of ambition. But rather than focus on that, it’s all about where we’ve been as perennial relegation candidates, which imho, is overstating the reality of the last 7 seasons.
