If I could just interject for a moment, let us revisit this moment from yesterday evening in amongst the dreary election outcome

I suspect that anyone capable of recording themselves making a Pokemon rap and posting it on a football forum, is unlikely to be the most intimidating of individuals (to most adults I hasten to add).

Here's a thought - maybe someone who can do that and not give a toss about what people think of them can look after themselves, hm?

Tories on TV all over the place trying to say Labour's policies are not wanted by the public, utter nonsense and spin again.

Corbyn and Brexit were responsible for 95% of this swing from Labour to the Tories, Labour can win an election with a manifesto like that with a different leader.

They may say that. They have won in former Labour seats, with a fiscally protectionist electorate. If they don't deliver the sort of protectionist policies they are after (and they associate with Brexit) then they will struggle to hold those seats.

And as a result of that vote you'll see unprecedented funding go into that area over the next five years. Because its now a viable swing seat instead of a Labour no man's land that can be ignored by both parties as the vote is taken for granted.

It's what I wish the people of Knowsley would understand - loyalty to Labour has got them the square sum of nothing.

Thats a big statement mate. We will have to wait and see. As yet they have received very little after 9 years. It would be a smart policy from Johnson to start bombing the north with lots of money, but I won;t be holding my breath.

We'll see, but I honestly can't see why they wouldn't.

Given a choice between putting money to Blyth or Knowsley, it's going to Blyth every day of the week now.

Even if Labour had got in, Knowsley would have been shafted as there's no reason to do anything but take their vote for granted. Labour would have done the same thing with newly won marginals.

It's not nice, but it's politics.

Not from the goodness of their heart, but because it's electorally sane to do.

Johnson would be stupid not to. It'd be like winning a new customer for your business and then putting zero effort into retaining them.

Logically you are right.

However most Tories (and in truth most politicians) don't really view the world in the same way we do.

In many Tories heads, they believe they have won because of their intellectual arguments over cuts and austerity. Many will see this as an opportunity to further cut. I am not saying they will, but that will be what their ego's tell them to do.

I think the perception of favouritism in such a way is very damaging. But yes this is what they are likely to do if funding is available.

It's not easy to just target one specific area though. Most funding opportunities tend to be more regional. You will have regional plans. I imagine they focus on northern seats that are not cities, which would include Knowsley. If they had sense and were optimistic they would consider trying to make an inroad.

I am not sure the headbangers could stomach it though.

In 2024 it will 50 years since labour won an election with anyone other than Blair.

Let that sink in.

In fairness mate, if you are looking at a workable majority (i.e. above say 15 seats) this is the first Tory government in my lifetime. They have just about managed to squeak over Blairs least impressive electoral victories.

The era of big clear wins is over. At some point you imagine electoral reform will come into play.

....I was a union member for over 40 years and I’ve got the gold badge to show it, but I saw a unity left movement of not very smart people taking over and pushing an agenda that if folk didn’t agree they were bullied and they were outcast.

Trade Unions do a great job, Labour has rightly had close ties but we now have a greater merger of the two and I don’t think it’s healthy and I don’t think it works. Increasingly, Labour is selecting a narrow church of ex-Union type candidates. They all talk the same talk, they are not well-rounded and it puts the electorate off.
You were in DHSS weren't you? Remember regional office in Bootle?
