I would back Starmer if the manifesto stayed mostly the same, with some tweaks (the four day week is likely an idea whose time has not yet come, for instance).

But do you not worry he would project as even more aloof delicate smarter-than-thou Londoner than Corbyn does to Labour Leave constituencies?

He'd absolutely be spun as such - typical North London intellectual, never had a proper job etc etc.

Let this be broadcast repeatedly during the next couple of days

psychopath. how can any sine person vote for this guy? speechless.

Boris is saying that the paralysis due to Brexit deadlock is preventing serious work and investment in the NHS, which can help prevent individual bad experiences on the NHS.

Honestly, if this clip gets repeatedly played, it's more likely to attract Tory votes than scare them away.

The putting the phone in his pocket was weird, but maybe that's just a nervous or tired tick-reaction. No harm done.

What´s been the excuse for the past 9 years? I hope Tory Party HQ think the same way as you and start sharing the video on their own pages because it ain´t doing Mr Johnson any favours whatsoever.

Lots to pick apart here. It's a very emotive post, but there's no concrete facts.

Let's start with the 350m figure. Why do you think it was a lie?

In 2018 the UK government paid £13 billion to the EU budget, and EU spending on the UK was forecast to be £4 billion. So the UK’s ‘net contribution’ was estimated at nearly £9 billion. Each year the UK gets a discount on its contributions to the EU—the ‘rebate’—worth about £4 billion last year. Without it the UK would have been liable for £17 billion in contributions.

What's 17b divided by 52 weeks? About 325m. We can assume 2016 was more than the 2017 figure, so the 350m red bus number (as gross) was actually fairly accurate.

Now whether post-Brexit that saved money will really be put to positive NHS use is another matter...Zukunftsmusik as we say in Germany, meaning it's in the future so we cannot say what will happen.

Let's do this particular one first, before we go on your other points.

Admittedly it's been a while since I read up on Brexit figures despite as you say it having a large impact on the upcoming election. However From what I remember from the 350m claim - A rebate won by Thatcher in the 80's is deducted first which leaves the figure somewhere around 250m-275m, Then with spending in Britain taken in to account (grants to poorer regions, agriculture subsidies ect) that knocks off about 100m. As far as I remember the current government promised to keep agriculture subsidies at current levels until 2020. Then we have other transport and infrastructure projects already under way funded by EU spending. They went with the gross figure rather than net to purposefully mislead people.

This might be outdated news and figures in late 2019 but to put it in to terms we Evertonians understand - about 3 Gylfi Sigurdsson's lad.

Anyway my rant earlier that you quoted was a bit over the top. It's hard though at times when you see people close to your heart struggle due to the ongoing austerity under our current government (Seen my Nephew who has severe learning difficulties and a pretty bad face tic be declared fit for work). It makes you go over board and come across as a bit preachy so for that I apologise.

And mate this isn't a nervous or tired tic reaction in the slightest. It's because he gets flustered over anything that isn't him just repeating his catch slogans over and over again. He's terrible when he has to deal with normal people, terrible at facing scrutiny and looks genuinely lost when he has to move away from a pre prepared speech.

He was Foreign Secretary, not PM. Austerity combined with the compulsory 350m-per-week EU membership fees prevented serious NHS-investment in those previous years.

Now Boris is PM and he has other ideas: exit EU and end austerity. Sounds quite ok, to be fair. He's bound to win a Lion's share of the vote.

The argument against that will have to be a lot more convincing than it currently is, if the GE is to result in a Labour government.

His ideas sound great, good job he´s never lied before or you might be worried he will renege on them.

Jesus wept...he was part of a government which used Brexit as an excuse to divert people away from the punishing austerity agenda inflicted on this country...

Come on now. Austerity won't end because we leave the EU. This is borderline arguing in bad faith here mate.

Like I said earlier you are free to vote, post and read whatever you want but let's not treat everybody like a reader of The Sun.

No need to apologise, Nev. As I said earlier my personal support goes to Corbyn's Labour as I think on balance that would be best for the country. But Boris and his Tories do have a strong argument too.

I wish the best for your nephew! There should be an appeal process for mistakes in civil-service admin.

Austerity was a choice.

I'm not saying I necessarily believe it, but that is the Boris platform. It's important to at least acknowledge that is the Tory angle. We all know politicians are economical with the truth, that they flower their language to avoid specific answers to hard questions. This isn't new.
