I can't stress just how badly the decision to call for a second referendum was. I'm really sorry, but the key people that were attempting to bounce the leadership into changing its policy aren't exactly the sort of people that want to see a Labour government led by Jeremy Corbyn.

It wasn't a bad decision to move to a second referendum, though the way the argument was made for it was bad.

The way it should have been presented was that the government have wasted three years of negotiations, which would mean that any incoming Labour government would have no time to get a deal that wasn't the horror that May and Johnson have come up with.

I think JC said something along those lines.

We need a miracle now. We need a Lib Dem collapse, and for those votes to come over to Labour. All of the polls indicate that the Lib Dem vote is especially soft this time around, so I feel like we have an opportunity to do exactly that.

The polls also seem to indicate that a lot of the Northern Tory vote is soft too, so we need to get our message of investment out.

But, but, but the Guardian said we´d be storming ahead in the polls? o_O

All you can do is hope and pray. There is an outside chance of a hung parliament if young people turn out in a way pollsters are predicting they won´t.

I've looked into this, because I'm a sad act.

The polls aren't that wrong, all things considered. When I apply the reported 2017 turnout to the 4 "top" pollsters, we don't see that much difference.

All I can offer is that we were equally if not more pessimistic at this point in 2017...

It does feel like fighting back against a tsunami of Tory power this time though. Smashed by RS and then routed in the election a week later. As December´s go, this one has the potential to be the worst for some time.

We need a comprehensive collapse in the Lib Dem vote, and for 55+ year olds to stay at home for us to have any chance.

The second referendum policy is what lost it.

I´m inclined to agree that the last thing we should have been doing is following the advice of the right wing of the party. Jo Swinson´s performance the other night gave us a nice glimpse into where Labour would be now if we´d appointed the likes of Liz Kendall in 2015.
