I know you're sort of joking but I actually think there should be a ceiling to it.

I also thinking the voting age should be raised to 21.

Reasoning for both is mental faculty - loads aren't fully matured at 18 and loads are mentally gone at 70.
That’s crazy talk. Why not just stop people from voting who have learning difficulties or low IQ as well. Got no problem with 16 year olds voting personally or old mad people.

Because that would be discriminatory and subjective - age is binary.

If it's crazy talk why don't we allow 8 year olds to vote? Why do we have a lower age limit at all?

By the way this backed by science what I'm saying - the human brain goes through development for longer than thought many years ago and is still not mature at 18. And we know the cognitive decline of age. Informed decision-making is the issue, and age is a barrier to being informed.

Supporting any change to the franchise is just another way of avoiding an election. We can't physically register millions of new voters and have a pre Christmas election. It will take about 6 months.

Wouldn't surprise me if this has been the plan all along.
This is the nonsense defence line coming out of anonymous no 10 sources (Cummings)

Under 16's can already register, and EU nationals will mostly already be registered as they could vote in the EU elections held this year

Is it bonkers? They're making a life for themselves here and planned for the future here. They are invested in the country just as much as anyone else

I see that argument, but I just disagree. I think they've made the choice to live here with the restriction of their nationality already in mind - I see no need to change it.

It opens up a mess of red tape too - for it to be fair and to stop as far as possible a conflict of interest, they should renounce their ability to vote in any other country IMO too, as an example.

Unexpected events often play a role in elections, usually (but not exclusively) to the detriment of the ruling party.

Why? They live and contribute to the country as much an anyone else.

This election will impact them more than British citizens so they should have a say.
Surely it should only be anyone with UK citizenship who should vote in a UK General Election. According to my wife, when she was a poll clerk for the Referendum, non-UK EU citizens weren't allowed to vote, but were in the EU elections. It seems to me that all these ploys are designed to delay and muddy the waters enough to eventually lead to a second referendum. As a realist, although I voted Leave, I don't think we will ever leave the EU. To be honest, I don't think I care any more.

Looks like we won’t be having an election after all. If they pass an amendment to allow EU nationals to vote then the Government will pull the bill. Corbyn knows this, so well played......

I do think that the voting age should be lowered for sure. If you are a UK national and you are paying tax on your wages (or liable for tax) then definitely.

But for me this is a really big change to our current voting procedures, so it should be part of a proper consultation and substantive legislation, not an amendment.
