EU citizens clearly shouldn't be able to vote in a UK election. That's just bonkers.

The problem with this argument is that they can, and do. EU Nationals can vote in council and EU elections, and Irish nationals can vote in GE as well - the boat on that argument has sailed some time ago.

The vote at 16 one won't pass (and shouldn't), though.

Officially it would be hard to get them onto the ballot papers. In reality the Tories know that they have very little support from this grouping and it would further damage their opportunities, hence why they oppose it. I think we can safely assume the same is true amongst EU nationals!

The converse being the reason labour were quite hot on it.

As much as I admire her moxy, Greta Thunberg is hardly an advert for moderation and nuance.
Wherein lies the issue. We can’t all be ‘oh let’s listen to this 16 year old read a script from a Swedish PR company and change our ways’ then completely choose to ignore every other 16 year old. We treat them all as unheralded geniuses or none at all.

I was being sent on operations from the government when I was 17 but they wouldn’t let me vote.

I had the mental capacity to qualify as a submariner and become a telecommunications engineer but wasn’t able to vote.

Lower the age to 16. Just because we have some less mature people at that age shouldn’t punish others. We have absolute fools in every age bracket. If you work and pay taxes, you should get a vote. Simple.

Because that would be discriminatory and subjective - age is binary.

If it's crazy talk why don't we allow 8 year olds to vote? Why do we have a lower age limit at all?

By the way this backed by science what I'm saying - the human brain goes through development for longer than thought many years ago and is still not mature at 18. And we know the cognitive decline of age. Informed decision-making is the issue, and age is a barrier to being informed.

But old enough to join the services?

What if you go to school and don’t pay tax like 99.9% of 16 year olds nowadays?

If you lose your job should you lose the right to vote?

Actually I could accept that, but it’s a bit like the hated poll tax. I cannot accept the spurious argument put forward by Corbyn that ‘they are the most affected’ and should therefore get a vote. My six year old granddaughter is most affected and she wouldn’t get a vote.....
