...neither Gueye or Gomes will ever provide goals. That in itself isn’t a disaster, the Reid/Bracewell partnership was not prolific but goals were aplenty in the mid-80s, Sheedy, Steven, Heath, Sharp, Gray and Mountfield were capable of hitting double figures.
The problem with this team is we are largely reliant on just two players for goals. If we accommodate a Gueye/Gomes partnership we will struggle if others don’t chip in with their quota.
You need in this type of system about 40-45 goals from your starting front four, be that 10-12 each, 20,10,10,, 5, or 30, 5,5,5 etc.
Right now ours get kinda the figures which would be fine if we had someone scoring the way a peak Lukaku was for us, but we don't. So either need to bring in that prolific a player, or ensure that the front four as a unit have more goals in them, right now Richarlison could be in that 15+ range, siggy - 10 or so, Walcott 5?, Bernard 2-3?
Replace Walcott with someone else who can add similar to Richarlison, then your on tarvet.
Forward options off the bench then need to chip in with 10 or do, defenders combined over a season similar, and similar from central midfield.
Benchmark should be aiming around the 75+ goals mark.
