Every year someone comes up with a list like this of players we should sell / "get rid of". Usually they've already figured out how they're going to spend these imaginary transfer fees.
As far as I know there's only two ways to get rid of players in the middle of their contract : sell them or loan them. Loaning them is less attractive because they'll end up being sold on for a lesser fee or playing out their contract. And Everton have such a small squad we can't afford to loan out many players from our matchday squad. But selling them is only possible if another club makes a reasonable offer. So remind me, how many offers have we had for Cahill, Osman, Anichebe, Hibbert etc ? And what makes anyone think we're going to get offers in for them this summer ?
The transfer window was very quiet in January and I think will be quiet again this summer as the big clubs aren't able to splash the cash in the same way as they did 2 or 3 years ago and have to be really selective in who they go for. So there may be interest in Baines, but I'd be surprised if there was much interest in Fellaini, Jagielka or the injured Rodwell.
So I don't think there'll be any huge clearout, and I don't think that's such a bad thing. The team's got a solid foundation to it, thanks to the likes of Howard, Heitinga, Distin, Fellaini, Gibson, Osman and Jelavic.
So what might happen ? Having let 4 strikers go in the past year Moyes still has a dilemma, as Jelavic is the only top drawer striker we have - Cahill and the Straq aren't scoring enough, Vellios isn't playing well enough to make the bench, McFadden will be out the door in the summer, and Anichebe ... is Anichebe. It would be no great surprise if we sold Anichebe to (say) Blackburn and let the Straq go back to Argentina. But how do we find the money to replace them, especially if we're hoping to buy Pienaar, that's the problem.
And it's not just strikers Moyes will be looking at. Neville and Distin are in their mid 30s, and we could use some fresh legs at left back and right back.
