Stopped reading when you said Heitinga was a snide....
Nah great read this. Oh how the attitude to the future could have been so different. I think it's our way, I remember Moyes saying at the start of this season about how we need to go back to old ways of 04/05 when we were a side that was first and foremost difficult to break down, full of graft and guile, determination and hard work. 09/10 we were very pleasing on the eye at times, Arteta dictating, Pienaar cutting inside and I genuinely thought we were good to watch. Was Arteta really THAT important to us to make us change our style of play, don't get me wrong we've always been a side that love a physical battle, defense first but we could play then. I just think now as soon as we get a lead and even before that at times, we play for a 1-0 victory and at times play for a 0-0. 41 games at OT, the Bridge, Anfield, Emirates: 0 wins and 14 draws. Not good enough. Not to mention no trophy and he gave THEM a 3-0 win in order to concentrate fully on changing that.
Anyway.. not going to rant about Moyes forever but he does need to change the way we play... examples off the top of my head are Spurs away.. lost 2-0 not arsed no conviction. In the reverse fixture we got a goal thanks to Jelavic (what would we have done without him lately?) and defended the WHOLE 2nd half. People will say we won stop moaning and believe me I love 1-0 wins and grinding out results and love how we're a team that get into oppositions faces, stops them playing, high tempo get the crowd going and all that... but it doesn't need to be like that against the Wolves and Stokes of this world.
So yeah, Moyes needs to alter our mentality because let's face it we are capable of doing better with this squad, I actually think the current squad is one of our strongest in a long time, albeit we have 3 or 4 loanees.
What I would do has no relevance, but we do need to sell dead wood such as (sorry to say it) McFadden, Hibbert, Neville (would like him to be involved, maybe as a coach.. been there seen it done it an all that) Do we need Jagielka? Debatable, in Johnny, Distin and Duffy we'd have our FUTURE captain - I'm sure of it - an experienced CB along side him, I think Distin has 1 year more in him maybe more. And in Duffy, someone who has terrific potential and has shown he is capable already this season. So I agree with the folk above, 10m for Jags WOULD HAVE been great, but we won't get that offer again.
We need to buy for the future? Perhaps.. but in Coleman, Duffy, Junior, Rodwell, Barkley, Vellios and Gueye, we have a really good crop who will be key in our future I feel. Definitely 4 of those 7 anyway.. apparently Luke Garbutt, Bidwell, Forshaw and Hope are all ones to look out for, so that's positivity right there. And let's not forget, the best defensive mid in the prem imo, is relatively young too, Maro Fellaini..... I'm stuck on Anichebe tbh, remember watching him 06/07, 07/08 and thinking wow he's one for the future. Injuries... which brings me to Rodwell's progress.. where's Barkley been... Moyes always says we're the best club for youngsters as they get their chance, I disagree with that shall we say.
So, our trophyless years are behind us thanks to this team..
GK: Howard - Heading towards the end of his career, won us the champ. league on pens
RB: Coleman - 'I told you he'd be boss at RB'
CB: Heitinga - Now Everton captain, my desktop background is him lifting the trophy.
CB: Duffy - Ireland regular and contender for young player of the season.
LB: Baines - Finally starts ahead of A.Hole for Engerland and named in team of year.
DM: Fellaini - Finally in a team contending for major honours like he deserves to be.
CM: Rodwell - This is that man.
CM: Barkley - BOOM! No explosions nowadays, and just turned down a move to Real Madrid.
RW: Muniaim - Signed months after he ripped Utd apart 3 years ago now. Ballon d'or contender.
ST: Jelavic - 36 goals in all comps 14/15 all first time finishes.
LW: Fry - Signed from Fulham after Jol left, young, pacey and skilful.
Seriously. That side, on paper, could match most. However we'll probs still have Hibbert, Neville, Cahill and Osman in the team years from now and have McFadden playing the lone striker role. Bought back Bily and David Weir from the Rodwell money....HA. I worry about going backwards, mediocre for me isn't good enough. I love Moyes but we do need change.. because I can't see him changing, can you?
Walking out of Wembley was painful as I heard the bad bellends singing Davey Moyes is a football genius & 10 more years... however I'm still hurting right now as must all of you be, but I think we need change to be optimistic about the future, as we've seen it time and time again.. falling on the big stage under Moyes.
Having said that, I ****ing love David Moyes (I do, but is he the man for us NOW?) and I ****ing love Everton Football Club.
