The United States really isn't a democracy anymore.

I suppose it should be asked whether it ever was one - I mean, we are talking about a country where within living memory it was possible to be imprisoned for marrying someone from outside of ones' own race.

I think, if you are so inclined, it's prudent to also ask yourself what you would have done as a British citizen in the 1930s.

There were 9.5 million Jews in Europe in 1938. England said they would take in 10,000 children of the people no country wanted on their doorstep.

The numbers make it sound feeble and silly. Ten thousand saved of nearly 10 million at risk. How much difference did that really make?

My grandmother was among the last of those 10,000 smuggled out of Germany, through Belgium and into England. It made a big difference to her, and because of that I (gratefully) get to be here annoying you all with my nonsense football thoughts.

It's important that people not forget what your country did before the war started. It was a truly wonderful thing.

I'm Catholic myself mate, I've never encountered anyone even remotely fascist within my church or any other I've visited. Also the church signed an agreement not to formally appose the nazi party in 1936 in Germany.
A more indepth look at the Nazi party and its actions towards the church , which in viewed as a obstacle to control of the masses to there doctrine is needed to understand it fully lots written on the subject.

In fairness the vatican was surrounded by a facist state.
