Current Affairs The Far Right

I for one have had enough of them. They're not big nor clever. It's not 'alt-right', let's call it what it is - pure fascism.

All decent people must not stand for a potential rise of this. History will not look favourably upon the silent. Protest peacefully, and make your voice heard. The world ain't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I feel there is more good than bad and we cannot stand by and watch it burn.

If you've ever asked yourself what you'd have done as a citizen in mid-1930's Germany to stop Hitler, now would be a good time to find out.

Excellent post, Grouch.

I mostly am posting for the irony.
You take umbrage at the stereotype of white Christians, then go on to make quite the offensive stereotype of Southern Christians.

A church in Arkansas...far right too btw

Firstly I apologize for the poor excuse of a response I gave to this when you first posted it I was walking into Goodison at the time and I wish I'd just of left it and provided I better response.

I can honestly say I wasn't trying to be stereotypical of all Southern Christians or even Southerners in general. The type of far right church I gave as an example is merely the type I most frequently have to condemn while explaining to others that most Christians are not like that. You'd be surprised just how often I have to defend my beliefs.

I'm not familiar with the church in this picture, do you know what denomination they are as I'd be quite interested to know.

I hear what you're saying, but comparing Bannon to Hitler is quite dangerous. Bannon represents a side of Trump that was democratically elected by roughly 50% of those that voted.

Hitler's power came about because of the Enabling Act. You're comparing apples with pears to make a very exaggerated point.

I've heard people say things similar to this, and I think it's time to make something clear.

The United States really isn't a democracy anymore.

  • Nationwide turnout was only around 60%
  • If you're a felon, you lose voting privileges. And we throw millions of people in prison for nonviolent crimes. You can be disenfranchised for a fairly benign drug violation.
  • Trump lost the popular vote by a 3 million vote margin.
  • Out of the 435 House districts, only 50 of them are regularly competitive. The rest are gerrymandered to give the incumbent a huge advantage. State legislatures have a similar problem.
  • Senate power is insanely skewed towards small, rural states. When Senate Republicans were in the minority for Obama's first term, they were basically able to shut down the entire government while only representing somewhere around 30-40% of all voters.
  • Strict voter ID rules basically only exist to suppress turnout among more transient (poor, students, y'know, those who support Democrats) populations. Yet, they're now common place in most of the country.
  • You basically have to be rich to run for office. Over 90% of Congress are millionaires.

So what I'm saying is that I don't particularly care that Trump won the election and that the GOP has majorities in both houses of Congress. Because the idea that US elections are fair and just is a joke.
