Im ashamed of what I saw yesterday.

It was horrid.

But I saw hundreds of people abusing the players on twitter, you think this will motivate them?

There’s nothing in the world that can motivate them, I think we’re past that point now. I’ve been vocally critical of the fans in the past but they’ve got free reign to abuse the players now as far as I’m concerned. Fill your boots lads.

There's no excuse for that.

At some point, do we have to separate out "bellends on the Internet" from "fans"? If so, to what degree? I know you're a fan because you post here and are knowledgeable. With the odd exception, that seems to cover the people on this forum.

Of the people abusing players on Twitter, how many are people that would identify as fans, and how many are people just piling on in the best trainwreck of the day? I would guess many, but not all, would call themselves fans.

Are we defined by the most disgraceful of our fans, or the fanbase as a whole?

I think that reasonable people can come to different conclusions about the above questions and, as a result, come to a different judgment on whether the fans are "good" or "bad". I suspect that almost all of us can agree that some fans crossed the line yesterday in a big way.

It's a cancer, I have no idea ho you deal with it cos the kids are getting like it too

Definetly. I sat in the park end one time and the atmosphere there was absolutely toxic and I will never make that mistake again.
Less than 10 mins in with no goals against us and crowd had already turned

I disagree completely, they are both performanced based live entertainment, with paying customers of which without the entertainment would simply not exist.

Nope your bias personal judgement of me couldn't be more incorrect. As a fan I want success and demand more from the club it's that simple.

The insecurity lies deep within the club and transpires on the pitch most weeks. But to say the people who follow through thick and thin and take their seats at Goodison are to blame is complete lunacy.
despite my tedious bickering u have remained a calm gentleman in response and therefore u are a credit to this place mr regan well done whenever u need me i give u one card to CRUSH anyone u like.

It certainly seems to be more prominent in areas like the Park end and obviously less so in the family enclosure etc. I find myself thinking, if it makes you so sad, why the eff are you still here.

Why does it always come back to ‘its der fans fault’?

Do people just want fans to start self immolating at the game every missed pass?

It doesn't,we are happy to point out when players have a bad game but getting at them from the off or for one bad pass is not on. There are so many "fans" that appear to enjoy screaming abuse rather than being positive it is weird and does effect the players.

Karius got much worse stick after the CL final. The RS went and bought a top keeper and farmed him out elsewhere. Turned out alright for them.

EDIT - Thinking about it a little that's a gross simplification. The grief that Karius got was disgraceful from some people so he's not a good example but I think there's a case for being vocal about players who don't try.

so the consensus seems to be it is the fans who do not go to the game and their angry entitlement that is the problem. this is an important distinction and i thank those who made brave contributions.
