This is what we've become.
The example we've used is Denmark where there is opposition to any form of migration. In fact the intention is for 0 asylum policy and hostility to immigration generally.
I think it's also disputable to say that legal migration has limited opposition. There is lots of opposition to asylum seekers, refugees - particularly from Muslim countries.
If you think back to the Brexit vote, Garage was stood in front of a sign suggesting immigration meant we were at "breaking point". Nothing illegal about those people. Attitudes might have softened from 2015-16 but it's still not 'limited.
Also, at best there is confusion about the definition used when discussing immigration. Migrant/economic migrant/illegals/illegal immigrants/immigrants/refugees/asylum seekers are often used interchangeably.

Where is the effective opposition when presented with that? Starmer and Rayner, no chance. People will not like to admit they were wrong so I expect similar results as last time. Oh and for clarity I have voted Labour whenever I have bothered

But the Red Wall - made of sand. Middle England is pissed off with the wastrel. Most governments get elected because of the unpopularity of the current incumbents.By-elections mean sod all. No effective opposition in this country, simple as that. Even if Labour get in I am yet to see what their intentions are and suspect they want a power grab off the back of unpopularity of the current incumbents.
