I never really know what people mean when they say ‘multiculturalism has failed.’ Modern societies have never been mono-cultural and when people have attempted this, bad things tend to happen.
I understand it to mean that although there is a dominant cultural ideology in a country, that country acknowledges cultural differences, religious differences (and to a greater or lesser extent protects them or considers them complimentary to its own dominant culture).

What would you say the dominant cultural ideology of the U.K. is? I’d imagine if you asked 10 people you’d probably get 10 different answers.
People with different backgrounds struggle to integrate at times, I understand that. It’s never going to be easy. But when people say that it’s failed, it tends to be a lazy and casual admission to say it’s ok to be racist.

It's well documented that immigrants generate more in taxes than they consume. This is especially so as the overwhelming majority of immigrants are students or people with work visas.

So why are we targeting them again?

There is a huge difference between legal and illegal immigration. Students and people with work visa's are part of the legal, controlled immigration system. In your own words, controlled immigration is beneficial.

There is limited opposition to legal migration. It's the illegal, uncontrolled immigration that folks are concerned about...

Where is the mass opposition to work visas and student visas?
European migration was legal. You saying there was no opposition to any Eastern Europeans coming to work in the U.K.?
Being opposed or supportive of ‘legal migration’ only counts if you support the laws that dictate it. People trying to take or shift to a moral high ground by now using the legality argument are being pretty duplicitous.

It was legal then. It isn't now. Believe it or not, in principle, I am actually a big supporter of the free movement of people. But it needs to be balanced... it needs equal movement in both directions for it to work. When you have an imbalance of movement, which we had, this is where the problems started...

I'm not targeting anyone. What's more, I didn't imply or state that those that come here 'scrounge'.

I can understand why you're so defensive and emotive about this, and that it is a topic that tends to attract some nasty tossers, but the facts remain - we are densely populated and consume far more than our resources provide and successive governments have failed to ensure that essential infrastructure increases with the population.
We used to make things which we exchanged for what we consumed. Now we buy as well the things we used to make, it is difficult to see what UK Inc. is for, apart from money laundering and making films and music.

Fair enough. I disagree though as people tend to move towards resources and safety.
The original argument that people support migration as long as it is legal is bunk though

We all know what that means: he means north African Muslims. The chart he shared specifically targets those people and makes them look like societal leeches.

Not coincidentally, those people tend to be more working class, married to stay at home
wives, whilst other, European, migrants generally enjoyed a higher education and have a two-income family.
That's an important nuance that the poster seems to forget.

Thats not denying there are problems, but we'll get there.
In the meantime, Tories will use these (often quiet) people as scapegoats to deflect from their failure to serve our society in a meaningful way.

The example we've used is Denmark where there is opposition to any form of migration. In fact the intention is for 0 asylum policy and hostility to immigration generally.

I think it's also disputable to say that legal migration has limited opposition. There is lots of opposition to asylum seekers, refugees - particularly from Muslim countries.

If you think back to the Brexit vote, Garage was stood in front of a sign suggesting immigration meant we were at "breaking point". Nothing illegal about those people. Attitudes might have softened from 2015-16 but it's still not 'limited.

Also, at best there is confusion about the definition used when discussing immigration. Migrant/economic migrant/illegals/illegal immigrants/immigrants/refugees/asylum seekers are often used interchangeably.

Denmark has, in theory, a center-left Government
