That is outrageous. Over here it is means tested but ranges from €224 pw for a carer under 66 caring for one person to €393 pw for a carer over 66 caring for two persons.

I still think this is way too low considering the amount being saved by the Health Service by not having these as long stay patients in public hospital beds.

Carers are true heroes.

£75.00 pw carers allowance here. Had to be assessed, financially and that, by various NHS folk, but thats what I got.

Obvs we had other sources of income, Nikki's benefits and I could draw on my pension, so in that respect, we were fortunate. But nevertheless, the value attributed to my caring role was a tenner a day, give or take.

But £575K p.a. man lectures people on £9 per hour to refuse pay rises and not to look for them either.

As always I think there is a balance. I don’t like the fact that the Tesco workers, delivery drivers, NHS workers, builders etc etc had to be full front in the fight against Covid. While the better paid, bonused and cosseted white shirt and tie wearing population had a year or two off and now don’t want to go back to work. My daughter was not furloughed and had to work from home throughout, but is now back in work. It was bad enough having two tribes of workers and office bods before Covid, it’s downright insulting for the workers to see the Civil Service suggesting that people can also work from abroad at their holiday homes…..

I do think there's no reason someone should have London weighting to their salary if they are working from home and the address they are using on majority of days is not in London.

Obviously it will be open to fraud and manipulation as most things but if your salary is regionally biased then wherever you are residing majority of days should be your regional salary scale.

That has happened quite a bit with employees told they would have to come into the office to keep a London wage. Personally wouldn’t be too arsed with a pay deduction but live in a nicer area and probably cheaper housing.

In 2018 my beloved was diagnosed with the big C. She required surgery and chemo followed by radiotherapy which altogether lasted 8 months. I have had external access to my work emails and files since 2008. However, my cranker of a manager insisted that unless I was physically present in the office - 30 miles away - I had to take annual leave. So on the many days where she was really sick especially during chemo that was the reality. I said I can keep in touch by email and mobile at all times but his response was I couldn't watch emails if I was minding my wife.

An absolute thundering holl;ocks.

12 months later, everyone in the Service was working from home because of Covid unless frontline - Mrs BR and Miss BR are both nurses btw.

There was no loss of quality of service, no citizens losing out because of civil servants working from home.

It led to me getting into ill health for several months. I took early retirement as he had destroyed my enthusiasm and my health.

I have always said that presenteeism is as bad as absenteeism - staff who turn up in the office and spend the day gossiping and clock watching while really dedicated staff worked better than ever from home.

I know there was no diminution in service delivery in our Department once lockdown came in. Yes the endless online meetings were painful, but the work was done, and done well.

Thankfully Mrs BR is happy and healthy and back working for two years - a very strong lady!!
