From my understanding the traffickers really on a narrative of boats landing in the UK and everything being easy. If the feedback/grapevine turned to "you'll be deported to Rwanda," well I am sure that this is what Boris will be hoping for.

As for making the journey again that is a real worry as you'd imagine many will have been cleaned out by the unsuccessful attempt, leaving them open to debt bondage if it was attempted again. I have seen a few shocking reports about the Nigerian gangs targeting West Africans, Eritreans and Sudanese migrants. There really should be a unified approach from the west to this IMO.

I wouldn't say they rely on it so much as they use it a means of demonstrating value and success.

But all they will do is increase the money required and suggest only they have the expert knowledge and connection required to make the journey.

Perhaps the situation with Belarus last year is the more accurate guide, as any cursory glance at the news would have told people that getting on those planes is going to place them in a pretty horrible situation, and yet many still deemed that a better chance than staying where they were.

Oh you're so nearly there! Why not bring any who would rather claim asylum in the UK than France/wherever else here legally and allow them to remain whilst their claim is assessed? I mean, it has to be cheaper than flying and incarcerating them in Rwanda.

I say rely as it is a reliance upon selling the dream, the vision of the traffickers providing access to utopia (UK ) or friends and family. If feedback presents a counter reality that you'll end up in Rwanda it might alter the proposition in that decision making process.

I don't think that it is the answer and am not sure that it will get off the ground - but this is what the Tory strategy will be based upon.

As I mentioned previously, it would seem to be more humane and also more functional to have international processing to prevent these people from having to make horrific journeys in the first place.
