I feel like I have quite extensive experience of both Trafficking, Refugees having worked for many years in charities supporting those people.

The lack of knowledge about the issues is astounding.

Not always who people think would be trafficked and the consistent thing is that there's always money to be made by despicable people where there are desperate people.

You take a peek just below the "respectable" society we think we have in the UK, and all sorts of nasty stuff goes on, as you obviously know. My experience is only from folk like you, in the real world, who lifted my eyes a while back.

It's very easy to demonise people when you have absolutely no comprehension of who those people are and their circumstances.

And it's easy to demonise when you can dehumanise using labels and widely accepted falsehoods.

Trafficking, exploitation, modern slavery are all sides of the same coin basically.

I wonder how many MPs have availed themselves of the services "provided" by (almost certainly) Eastern European "escorts", for one easy example. Or how many yummy mummies wonder how that nail bar, staffed by a dozen young Asian girls, seemingly sprung up overnight, while their nails are prepared for their party later.

Some of the above will obvs be genuine, and legitimate. But blimey, its one hell of a cover for the rest.

It‘s the exact kind of nationalistic tripe their voters buy in to though. Incredibly frustrating at a parliamentary level, but also makes you really despise sections of this population. All of it beggars belief.

All they needed to do to deflect this stuff, and win any swaying voters back, was announce an immigration policy to fly refugees off to Rwanda FFS. Couldn’t make it up.

The counter point is how does sending people to Rwanda stop illegal trafficking?

I would imagine the thinking is to dissuade people from making boat journeys across the channel on the assumption that word will filter back. I am not sure that word of mouth would be enough to support this, like. Possibly having teams on the ground in France to push the narrative but then you'd still have the incredibly sad situation of those that had made the journey, possibly spent everything they have to get to that point.

The logical thing would be to have processing function abroad, possibly at UK embassies but they might fear being inundated.

If you're willing to risk a journey in the first place why would you a) think this is a deterrent b) just not make the journey again?
