The problem isn't the people paying to get in the boats, it's the people sending them and taking the money.
(We'll leave the French, for various reasons, turning a blind eye for another day.)

I'll try and explain the Australian version of turning the boats back.

Before; all the boat people, those who had paid a lot of money to traffickers and didn't actually drown by accident or design, got picked up, taken to safety, got given a refugee visa.
The Traffickers could sell this...not only will they pick you up, take you to the mainland, they'll give you refugee status.

Now; those people who have the money keep it in their pocket because they want to go to Australia, not some off shore 3rd party destination and you Don't get refugee status.
The Traffickers can't sell this - its not what the customers want.
No demand - No supply.
Very few boats, usually a few un orginised private individuals - who still get picked up, taken to safety and mostly don't drown.
Some entrepreneurs will be noticing there are big trafficking opportunities emerging in Rwanda.

No mate. Refugees tend to be families or wives and children. Most arriving by boat are young men and are not refugees. Women and children will be looked after, single men will be flown out. Other refugees (real ones) will be allowed in instead…..
This is completely untrue, based on nothing but an idea of outdated 'poor unfortunate souls'. The idea that as a single man you can't be a refugee is wrong on many many levels.

Horrible contrast between Ukrainian 'real' refugees and other 'migrants' I might add too.

Not really surprising given the confidence Pete talks about things despite having absolutely no knowledge of the subject aside from Telegraph opinion peices.

Surprised the media are acting like today is an important day. Johnson will just carry on with his usual antics, lying in the faces of the British public like he has done for his whole life.
Looks like he’s dodging tomorrow and heading off to India to avoid the house.
Still, it’s slightly less obvious than hiding in a fridge I suppose.

100%, he will just keep talking until it goes away, just like every other scandal his party have created.
Zero accountability, absolutely zero.

Talk about a moral vacuum. The hoops the lackeys will go through in defending De Piffle is truly amazing ; he'd drop them in a heartbeat if it suited his purposes.

A parking fine isn't usually a criminal offence. Which is why he initially conflates speeding with parking, then uses the parking example for Tony Blair then immediately changes tact..

Gotta say I feel sorry for that Allegra Stratton.

Was practicing answers to questions about an illegal party which she didn’t attend, in order to prepare and protect her guilty employers.

Laughed at the ridiculousness of trying to defend said party, and lost her job for it.

Those who actually broke the law, carry on regardless.

While I have some sympathy it's hard to feel great sympathy for anyone who willingly puts themselves into a role where they are expected to provide excuses for a conniving narcissist knowing that they are simply cannon fodder for his shortcomings.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Remember at the time thinking her stepping down was the right call etc.

But given what we now know about her bosses conduct, and the fact that she didn’t even attend the party, I do have some sympathy for her, for actually taking accountability, while the rest of the weasels around her, who are actually answerable to the electorate, are just carrying on, defending the indefensible.

Constitutionally it is an important day. It's the day when a sitting Prime Minister has to apologise (I'm sure you'll still have the cowardly "I did nothing wrong" sources quoted in the Telegraph) to MPs for breaking laws he made.

Looking at him the last place Johnson needs to be is anywhere near a fridge pal. I'm expecting a staunch rebuke from our Old Etonian bar owner shortly, over the fuller figure being so much more fun.....
