Does the same apply to asylum seekers? My memory is certainly not what it was. I have some memory that asylum seekers were to be processed by the first country into which they arrived/ There is a difference between refugee and asylum seeker.
The only difference is in the status of the claim. One first claims asylum and then once that claim has been accepted, you become a refugee.

I'm not sure what it is you're trying to show me here.

Simply that signatory states should deal with these unfortunate people when they arrive in their territory. Passing them on to other states without any consultation or agreement is unacceptable.

Obviously each case is unique, but if one can generalise it's usually because of family connections, a community of expats, or language benefits. They're not doing it for shits and giggles.
If they get home over safe to Europe is it not enough to keep their family and kids safe in one place. I understand if it’s a man or a woman and their kids are in a different country. But if they are travelling with kids etc then why risk their life’s to get somewhere they feel more desirable.

They get sold a dream by the people smugglers which is completely different to the reality when they get over here.

It would sure be nice if we afforded people a bit of agency over their own affairs, wouldn't it? Think if you were in their shoes and you had to escape from Ireland. You have family or friends who could help you make a fresh start in Greece so really want to go there, but you have to go through Northern Ireland first and are forced to stay there "because it's safe". You have no say in matters and are expected to be grateful.

Another example if you like, during communism, our uncle tried to hop over the fence and out of CZ. He wasn't much good like so got caught, but you could perhaps imagine that had he a niece in England that he might imagine wanting to join her rather than stick it out in Austra just because that was where he happened to fall.

Tell you what, why don't you actually talk to some and find out?

Can you show me where you’re getting that information from?

Will be interesting for me in work you see. I must’ve imagined the thousands upon thousands of male asylum cases I’ve seen over the years.
Is this what you are after, mate?

Notes:

  1. The chart shows nationalities with at least 1,000 small boat arrivals in 2021, ordered by most to fewest.
Overall, males represented approximately 90% of small boat arrivals in 2021 (excluding arrivals where information on sex was not yet available in the dataset). Three-quarters (75%) of all arrivals were adult males aged 18 to 39, 7% were adult females, and 5% were males aged 40 and over. Children (under 18) represented around 12% of small boat arrivals, of which three quarter (76%) were male.

Once again

In the countries where they are from, such as Sudan, young men may be killed to stop them rebelling against the government or used as child soldiers. In Afghanistan, young men are often primary targets for recruitment by radical groups like ISIS and the Taliban and in Eritrea they can be conscripted for what is effectively a life sentence. For all these reasons, boys as young as 13 and 14 have to run away from their homes and their families.

In Calais we see more women and children from countries such as Syria or Iran, but they are usually prioritised for social housing and not as often seen on the street.

Moreover, the journeys to Calais are incredibly harsh. From Africa they might cross the Sahara which takes many lives, then Libya, which is lawless and no woman could cross without being rapped. From the Middle East the journey is across the Balkens where nighttime temperatures can be minus 20 and the borders are rife with beatings and human rights abuses. Few women and children would survive theses horrors.
