They come from the EU, it’s everything to do with the EU, but for some reason you all give them a free pass. If we put them all on boats and sent them to ROI you’d be up in arms…..
Pete, we have already taken 12,000 Ukrainian refugees with our population of just 5 million. We are not trying to move them off elsewhere but are giving thema warm welcome. Many more will come.

Sorry, the ROI are doing a great job tbh in respect of Ukraine. However what would you think if thousands of economic migrants from all over the place came by boat to Ireland after having the U.K. turn a ’blind eye’ to them and effectively pushed them out…..I think you might be a bit miffed tbh….

Mate we have accepted thousands over the years particularly from Nigeria. When I was working in D of Health with Maternity Services as part of my brief the three mat hospitals in Dublin were creaking under pressure with the numbers seeking to get their children born in ROI and thus qualify for EU citizenship.

We had a Citizenship Referendum in 2004 which put an end to this automatic qualification of citizenship because of being born in the State. The numbers have now decreased significantly.

We are happy to welcome genuine refugees from terror and give them safe homes. God knows what is left of their homes

So we have a situation where actual refugees, say from Ukraine, have to go through various hoops to get here, but economic migrants who give cash to criminals can just waltz in via a boat and jump the legal queue….does that sound either fair or Christian, Bruce…..
Jesus Christ Pete …. that’s a bad post even by GOT standards

Everyone agrees that genuine refugees should be looked after. But economic migrants are jumping the queue by paying criminals to put them on boats and bypassing legal entrance….

BTW most of the economic migrants came through France and their authorities turned a blind eye just pointing them onto the ferries to Ireland. If they were genuine asylum seekers, under the Convention they should be dealt with by the first signatory State into which they arrived. The French just waved them through

No mate. Refugees tend to be families or wives and children. Most arriving by boat are young men and are not refugees. Women and children will be looked after, single men will be flown out. Other refugees (real ones) will be allowed in instead…..

And this is my point. The EU and France are abrogating their responsibilities by their behaviour and passing a ‘problem’ onto others. The EU is supposed to be a safe set of countries. Either it is or it isn’t…anyone not declaring or seeking refugee status via the EU countries they travel is not really a refugee, but an economic migrant….

You must live in a rarified parallel universe Bruce. Should the whole world move to the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, as they are very nice I’m told…it might get a bit crowded though….
Immigration controls are barely 100 years old Pete and I don't recall the Isle of Man being over crowded before they were introduced. As before, why do we assume that the considerations we would make prior to moving to another country are not the norm?

Fine, try moving to the USA, or Russia, or China, or anywhere in fact…let me know what happens….
