The hypocrisy of the electorate, over successive governments have voted for small government, voted for governments that minimise public services, that has in turn escalated the amount of public provisions that are sourced via private means and now people are up in arms because those private companies charge a lot for things we might need as a public service.

This is it what you get what you voted for...

This is what I say to anyone who voted Tory or Brexit. There can be no hiding place for them. This is what they wanted when they cast their votes.

Have to laugh at how Boris is being portrayed as 'Heroic' one front bencher put it as 'Boris will be a God if he gets this through' what they should do is tell it how it is, it's a tax to fund the NHS.

Also, they need to stop using the pandemic as an excuse, they have been in power for 11 years so it's cowardly to now hide behind the pandemic.
In many ways, the pandemic has been pretty convenient for them. Expect this excuse to me used for a few more years

Indeed "God of fudging it". Threat of reshuffle pulled them into line.

Labour increased the social care budget by 60%. 11 years of Conservative led governments, and it's pretty much flat.

Labour (and many others media, including GBNews of all places) have pointed out that the funding is insufficient; takes proportionately more money from younger and low paid workers (and north compared to south no levelling).

And has no impact on those who make money from investments, lacks details on how the money will be spent; and even the 'cap' isn't the real cap, and will do nothing to prevent people of modest means potentially having to sell their homes.

None of this money is for social care until the next government comes into power, its for the underfunded NHS, which of course next government dont have to adhere to said Social Care pledge...

Increased spending on social care is required. This is not the solution

Surely this is the one where majority of electorate will see the wheels come off that bus and its £350 million.

Oh deffo mate. Listened to a Tory MP yesterday on the radio saying that promises have been made by the cabinet and that the NHS backlog will be sorted in the 3 years and then social care will receive the bulk of the money, only for Sajid Javid to then come out and say that they couldn't make any promises and the backlog could take 3 years, 5 years or even 7 years. This will end up with them just kicking the can down the road.

I can already hear the joyful hoots to build more private Five star Luxury Care Homes, charge um a fortune, and if we order some smart uniforms from "ChinA" nobody will know its just poorly paid staff getting paid for contact time only.

Boris is at least doing something, say the performing seals clapping it through, without actually having read it at all.

Most people will not hit the cap - 75% will die before they hit the cap

Many people will not even qualify for help - you need to be assessed for care, 50% of claims are rejected

Most people will still have to sell homes or other assets to pay for care

Delay before new rules apply - people who are already receiving care won't be subject to the cap so nothing changes for them

As it happens the funding of social care from NI increases is an aspiration and the final decision on how much of the increase goes to social care is to be made by the Treasury

I wonder why he released the plan, then had the vote on it the next day, i wonder why!?

TBf the wretches on the Government backbenches would have voted that through however long they had to be told all the flaws in it; the big boys are in charge now and they’ve all seen what happens to boys who misbehave.

So bad news for the core Tory vote over the last couple of days as reality and Boris accidentally bump into each other. Half arsed, badly thought out, light on detail social care programme and “temporarily” halt the triple lock pensions.
Need something quick!
“Priti, gun boat the migrants.”
That’ll keep ‘em happy for a bit longer.

Yup. Until something goes wrong and several people drown in the Channel.
Not that that would bother the consciences of brexiteers I guess as they chomp their way through their full English.
