I'll dip my toe into this shark infested topic by asking is there anybody else out there who doesn't realise that any contributions made today pay for today's costs.
There is no accumulated fund with your name on it for when you may need it in your later years.
I'm astounded at the number of people who are surprised when they are told this. I was made aware of this when I started work in the sixties.

I can see the downtrodden swallowing this whole 'well I guess we have to pay for it somehow' and 'they are doing their best after covid'

Certainly that is what the weaselry on the government backbenches seem to believe, their brave stances of a few days ago having seemingly evaporated in the heat.

This is a risible tax rise that is again probably going to have no other effect than to transfer money from the less well off to the well off (in this case care firms and the current well off elderly types).

If they wanted to do this properly, the care sector needed to be taken in house first (so costs could be controlled) and then you could bring in a separate tax for everyone to contribute into towards their own care costs.

If people don’t want, need or already have care, they could opt out on the understanding that they would have to pay the full cost (or a %) later on.

Hopefully people might start to question them being on the side of the working class now lol

Taxing the poor to pay for the care of the rich.

It isn't a defensible position.
the poor have been getting screwed in terms of care as well. old grannies selling whatever little they have for shocking, even abusive levels of 'care'

hopefully this will at least stop people having to end up penniless through no fault of their own.
